Hi,

The thumbnails in channels panel behave a little strange if you have documents with transparency.

transparent areas are shown black (K channel)
if you add a rectangle with black-to-white, black is shown black and white is shown white (effectively the absence of black).

if you add another rectangle in a color without black component, this area is shown white for K channel.

this means that absence of black is shown either black (transparent areas) or white (non-transparent areas ) which seems illogical to me.

i‘m wondering if it would make more sense to use white as background color in transparent areas.

Hm… I have no clue what it's about. An example? A screenshot?

The thumbnails are so small that i can hardly see what's going on.

I think on windows it is displayed differently. On windows 10 transparent areas seem to remain transparent on thumbnails.
On my example half is fully transparent. The other half is fully opaque.

You are using Mac OS, right?

Adding a channels mixer

CMY: all 0

K: K

alpha: 100% offset

now you see the inconsistency:

  • the colors in channels panel give the wrong impression that those colors differ depending on xy position.
  • in reality, those 3 colors are zero at every position

It looks like from the screenshot that this is showing the iPad version, although I think it is similar for the macOS version.

Regardless, for both the thumbnails are so small that they are practically useless for identifying what's what in the channel.

Disagree. I use them specifically for this purpose in certain cases, and started this post because of this.

it is the same on all platforms. Maybe on iPad they are relatively larger.

It is a big difference if something is shown black or white, even in that thumbnail.

All I can tell you is on my 27" iMac screen the thumbnails are too tiny to be of much use.

@NotMyFault It if a change of expected workflow, please post in the Feature Request/Feedback section. In terms of the channels thumbnails, they are working as expected.

Sorry to object.

I will file more specific bug reports which explain what is wrong.
