Version 2 does not install

Recommended Posts

I have been using Affinity Photo and Designer for quite a while and decided to get the Version 2 package with Photo, Designer and Publisher. I managed to install them on my desktop, but on my laptop I just get an error message headed Affinity Photo 2 installation failed, with the reason text box stating :

"App installation failed with error message: error -2018574325: Windows cannot process a deployment operation because the package repository database encountered an unrecoverable error. Use the Reset Your PC feature to recover your PC. (0x80004005)"

The same error message appears for Designer and Publisher. Do I really have to Reset my PC just to install this software? Any advice much appreciated.

The error code 0x80004005 often indicates an access/permissions problem. Does your user account have Administrator privileges? Did you try to temporarily disable your virus and malware checkers before installing?

Maybe this will help:

Did you try all the suggestions in the FAQ mentioned earlier?

Unfortunately, an in-place reinstall of Windows that keeps your apps and documents may not fix this problem because Windows Store is like an app itself. If you have a full image backup of your drives, I would suggest first making a copy of all documents you created/modified recently and then restoring your system from your image backup. Hopefully the problem you're encountering now didn't happen when the image was created.

Thanks for the advice (and also the speed of responses!), but this seems like a lot of effort (which might not work) for a laptop that works fine in every other way (permissions etc are not the problem and I checked the suggestions). I am disappointed that it looks like I won't be able to run the latest Affinity software on my laptop. I appreciate that the installing software using Windows Store is the way things are going (I have never done this before), but it has just stopped me from using the software on one of my computers. It's a pity there is not an alternative way of installing it. Installing software should be easy.

Serif have said there will be an MSI-based installer, as an alternative to the current MSIX-based installer for V2.

However, it will still require the same level of Windows 10 or 11, so if your problem with that system is that your system is downlevel, it may still not work on it.
