Affinity Designer and Photo aren't able to open PNG files, saying file type not supported

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I've an issue trying to import PNG files to Designer and also Photo. The error message says that the file type isn't supported.

Are there any restrictions for PNG files to be usable within Affinity Software?

I appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your help!

I tried to import the PNG via drag & drop into the project file first and then I also tried it via the top bar but nothing worked.

I could post a screenshot of the error message but it's in German.

Anyways, it's not the best solution but I was able to insert the pictures of the PNGs by using the snipping tool of Windows 10.

Can you share one of the PNG files with us?

If you can share one, probably best to Zip it and attach the .zip file.

Hmm, I don't know if I'm allowed to do this as it's a logo of a company's software which I want to renew within Designer. It was an icon before but this file type isn't supported, too. Therefore I opened it in Windows Photos and saved it as PNG but this didn't work.

Perhaps you could try something similar with a different starting image that is sharable?

It might still be useful, especially since there are several native German speakers here.

Okay, maybe I've encountered the issue. I thought the companies icons were just simple icons saved as PNG like icons normally are but they're saved in a format called ICO. So Affinity just probably isn't able to handle those file types even if they're saved as a appropriate file type afterwards.

You can also always use IrfanView to preview, convert, and so on ...,  between a bunch of different image formats!

☛ Affinity V2 apps still not installed and thus momentary not in use under MacOS
