Select same colour not working

Recommended Posts

I was designing a sign and when I went to select same fill it didn't work properly. It only selected some of the same colour. Noting was grouped with other colours so I dont understand. I checked that one colur throughout the sign and it was the same thats what I don't get.

Any suggestions.

Michael

Suggestions:

  1. Please provide some screenshots that demonstrate the problem, including the Layers panel.
  2. In them, show us the Color panel definition of a layer that was properly selected, and of a layer that wasn't. Also please tell us how you assigned the colors to the objects.
  3. Ideally, if you're allowed to, share your .afdesign document so we can examine it.

Tell us which application and OS is being used, eg; Designer, on Mac OS 11.6

How is this "sign" being made? Is it Vector objects or Pixel layers?

Initially, which tool is being used to select the colour?

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Old Bruce, its designer on Mac 10.12 on desktop. All vector artwork, two colurs, black and orange. Maybe its just a glitch because I never had an issue before with it. I selected one part of the orange and went  select same fill and it did't select the rest. Nothing was grouped. I check both orange colours and they were the same cmyk make up.

Select > Same > Fill Color in AD only works for objects that can be assigned a fill color, like vector & quick shape objects & "(Image)" layers. So if you have a mix of them & "(Pixel)" layers anything in a "(Pixel)" layer won't be included because "(Pixel)" layers do not have Fill colors, just pixels.

I will assume there are several vector objects (more than just a couple of orange and a couple of black).

Saying "one part of the orange" makes me think you have a pixel selection over the area of one of the Orange objects and are expecting that pixel area to expand, it won't.

Another thing that may be causing the problem is that the objects (orange) have some Opacity or Noise differences. That is controlled by the little slider at the bottom of the colour panel.

Opacity can be a tricky (evil) thing with the Select Same Colour feature. In this clip are 4 squares, each of them has the identical colour definition, two use 50 % opacity, but only 3 of 4 get selected with "Same Colour":
