awakenedbyowls
My latest digital painting effort. A strange world on the edge of the milky way, featuring mermaids, nonapuses and lollipop spaceships. Nonaptych versions can been visualised at @minimowlism and @MNMWLSM on Instagram. Figured out how to draw rocks and mermaids now 👍 Also discovered a use for Inner Glow - I found that by adding a 0.1px effect (white) to some of the rocks layers helped them blend together better and smoothed some of the edges. jmwellborn, NathanC, Alfred and 6 others

dannyg9
Love this! Such a positive vibe (everything seems to be moving UP). Love all the little bits and pieces too (dinosaur, mermaid floating with the balloon, and especially the tentacles in the foreground exploring from the other side of the rocks!). awakenedbyowls

I know what you mean about the UP effect 😄 amazing how easy it is to create effects with these brushes etc on AD. I just started doodling bugs and stuff and then adding backgrounds etc and everything I started with eventually got discarded. I actually wanted to try and knock something up fairly quickly as the last one I did took the whole year (with big breaks in between playing games) but as whatever it is started to develop and become apparent I ended up spending ages carefully considering the whole design and changing lots of things. The mermaid was the last thing I gave some brush effects to and nearly ended up just leaving it as a plain white silhouette - until I used an impressionist oil brush over a coloured background and finally got it to look right. I was also going to give her hair until I realised that she looked great without - or her hair is tied up in a bun - either effect can be employed in your mind’s eye. I also have no idea why it ended up with a similar symmetry in the composition to my first one The Awakening - which I just reworked.
