frank26080115 Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 I am trying to use the clone tool to remove halos, following this video But I usually make my edits on another pixel layer to leave my original "background" layer intact. I set "current and below" for the sampling of the clone tool. I set the mode to "darker colour" as instructed by the video. This basically does not work at all, nothing is drawn onto the pixel layer. If I had to guess at the problem, it's that while the cloning sample is taken from both the current layer and the layers below, the sample for "is this pixel actually darker" is only taken from the current layer, and not the layers below. RichardMH Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 As a work around, try Merge Visible rather than adding a pixel layer. But I see the same problem. Quote

And it only affects this one blend mode. I could maybe imagine something unexpected happening on an empty layer with this mode. But, that nothing happens at all amazes me. By the way, if you use only one layer, it shouldn't matter which of the three possible sources you set. But if you set the source to "layers below", nothing happens - in any of the blend modes. This is also strange. Quote
kalee Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 I had a look at this problem, and you need to think a different way. Add an empty pixel layer for cloning, if you need to - but set it to darker colour. Now just do the cloning with the mode set to normal. Problem solved. NotMyFault 1 Quote
kalee Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 It is not an affinity bug, as cloning darker colour onto an empty layer does not work in my book, because there is nothing on that layer for it to be darker than. Quote

Been here before, what is happening is the pixels from the lower layer are trying to make a darker colour of empty/blank/transparent pixels on the empty blank layer. Kind of like three (or nineteen or eighty) times zero equals zero.
