Good day dear people,

Hope you have a creative one!

I have a question concerning a rather annoying thing that keeps happening whilst I am working on my IPAD in Affinity Photo...

When I work on a Mask with my Brush tool, I switch between black and white to refine it. However, the Brush suddenly switches to the Eraser tool in 2 situations:

1. At the moment when I look at my screen for too long without doing something (I do need time to think occasionally ;))

2. When I want to start drawing with the Brush tool and (the side of) my hand touches the screen before the pen does. (which it almost always does)

I really do not want this to happen (for various reasons). Do any of you know how to prevent this from happening...

Maybe related:

When I want to work without the menu and such, the complete menu re-appears upon touching the screen with the side of my drawing hand as well.

Well I very much hope to find the answer through you!

Thank you very much for your time whether you know the answer or not!

Best regards,

Frederiek

For this, try going into Preferences for Affinity and on the Tools section enable 'Touch for gestures only' and that should stop this from happening and may also help with issue number 1, which i've not been able to replicate yet, but i'll keep trying :)

Thank you, Stokerg! and thank you for the suggestion! I have checked this option and it was already enabled. I also tried wearing a glove on the hand in question. That helped with the menu, but the brush/eraser swith kept happening... I can't really pinpoint what causes it... If it is caused by any action of mine it is not one I am aware of... Is there a way to try and reset the program without loosing brushes and such? Maybe I'd have to try to delete it from the ipad and reinstall it again? Thank you again! Frederiek

@stokergGood day, yesterday I tried uploading a little video of the crucial moment (and the settings before it happens). The video did not upload correctly (.MOV file) so I'll try again in a different format(MP4)

it happens in the 27th second. You can see the switch in the menu left and below. Both my pen and my skin are not touching the pad. I hope you have time to see it and if you do, you see what goes wrong :)  Thank you in any case! Best Frederiek!

@FrederiekIt looks like you're double tapping your Apple Pencil, this will switch the Brush Tool to the Erase Tool. If you open the apps Preferences > Pencil you can change the tool it will switch to or disable the double tap all together.

You're right! 😯 I had no idea! I fiddle around with all my pens and I didn't even know that I could tap my pen for anything! Thank you so much!! Wish you a wonderful day 😊grateful regards, Frederiek

I’m getting this loads on V2 and it’s doing my head in - keeps switching from brush to eraser mode - I tried enabling Touch for gestures only and it’s still doing it!

Used to have the same problem in V1 but I think this setting fixed the problem

Have you checked the double-tap setting in Preferences/Settings, as suggested above?

(Note: this is not double-tapping with the pen tip; it's double-tapping on the flat side of the Apple pen.)

Yep that’s what it is ! I was just about to lay my pencil down and wasn’t even touching the screen and it just flipped to eraser - I tried double tapping on the pencil and it did it again - so that’s another setting I’ll be turning off

Cheers
