Hello all,
I have a question:
When I create a file in Affinity Publisher, the file becomes very large even though the document does not have much content.
For example, I have a DIN A 3 document with a picture (2.8 MB) and a few vector curves. When I export it as a PDF, the file has a size of 10.3 MB.
How does this happen?
Thank you for your help.

Could it be that the Affinity Publisher document has the image Linked?

Check with Document > Resource Manager.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hi Renate75,

Its going to be difficult to advise the best course for action without having a copy of the file to try exporting here at my end, if possible could you provide one so I can see if the file size bloats unexpectedly for me?

Thanks
C

The settings for PDF export do influence the resulting file size, e.g. image resolution / compression type (jpg or not) / compression quality (if jpg), color space and color depth. Also depending on the initial resolution / compression / color of the used image the output PDF can result in a larger file size then its input.

Hi Callum,

I have attached 3 files below: The file as PDF, as JPG and a screenshot of the inserted background.

It is really inexplicable to me how this file size comes about.

Thanks for your help

Hi Thomaso,

thank you for your answer.

I understand that the size depends on many factors, but I am still surprised that the file is so extremely large. Even as a JPG.

Could you give us the .afpub file, too, please?

It appears to be a matter of your export settings. Attached an exported PDF with 2.8 MB (sRGB, 300 dpi, compression quality 77%).
