I do quite abit of travel and found now that when I am away, I sometimes want to play around in AD. For you experienced users, as I am a new user and barely can draw haha, what laptop/tablet or what would you buy, if you weren't home and wanted to work on designs?

I would like a larger screen, so I don't need to zoom in all the time and think a stylus or pen would be helpful in certain situations.

I just need a push in the right direction of what I should be looking at. so I can research and start visualizing.

Appreciate the help!

Thanks!

Any iPad with large enough screen with Pencil works great. Last gen iPad Pro if money does not matter.

Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3

Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080

LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K

iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589

Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps.

I use iPad screenshots and videos even in the Desktop section of the forum when I expect no relevant difference.

What if I am not a Apple user. Any 2 in 1 laptop will work that has touch screen?

So far as I know, the only supported touch screen device is the iPad.

AP, AD & APub user, running Win10

The Windows and Mac versions have the same interface regardless of the kind of device being used, and a number of application functions depend on having a keyboard available. Only the iPad applications are designed for full touch-screen use.

When you say full touch screen, can you explain?

I have a Lenova Yoga 2 in 1 laptop touch screen. What is the difference between the 2 as far as full touch screen?

Was thinking about this model    https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x1/X1-Yoga-G6/p/22TP2X1X1Y6

Not beyond saying that the interface is totally different for the iPad apps, and oriented toward use of the touch-screen and for absence of a keyboard.

Wait, are we talking, only the AD software is design to work fully touch screen with ipad? as in, the windows version of AD doesnt have full touch screen capabilities?

Is this what you guys are telling me?

Depending of your needs, you'll have to check the technology for screen and stylus if you want to use one. If you want to draw, paint, and need pressure, tilting, etc. you'll need a Surface Pen... or checking forums about this laptop to check what is available and if it suits your needs. And if there's today another stylus with such features.

If you only need a mouse usually, a simple stylus will do the same.

None of the Affinity applications for Windows (or Mac) are tailored to work specifically on a touch-screen. If you have a touch-screen then you can certainly draw on it using the Windows applications, but you'll also need to interface with the standard Windows menu system. For example, undo is either Edit > Undo or Ctrl+Z. There's no Undo button on the Toolbar, and no gesture for Undo like the iPad applications have (2-finger tap). So it's either use the menu, or a physical keyboard, or the Windows On-Screen Keyboard. (That's just one example; I'm not sure how many others there are.)

All of the iPad applications (currently Photo, Designer, with Publisher coming someday) are designed specifically for use with touch-screens, and have their interface optimized for the touch-screen, and have gesture support built-in, and buttons like Undo/Redo if you want them.

(I have not tried a touch-screen with Windows, never having had a PC that supported one, and I'm very new at using my iPad. So I don't really know whether I would be happy using a touch-screen on Windows for the Affinity applications or not.)

That's what I needed to know. Thank you. i did notice when using my yoga laptop and drawing on the screen i had to flip my keyboard out to make a change. Don't remember what. But it was an inconvenience. Guess I'll have to think outside the box cause I cant see paying the price of a ipad for such a small screen. i was hoping to carry something around 14-16"

I can't draw crap with a mouse. I need a pen. especially with my none existent skill level. The mouse is to jittery and gets caught on the pad or I run out of room, etc, etc, etc.

Thanks for the knowledge!

Lots of people with Windows computers use iPads so if a touch UI and stylus are your primary needs then an iPad is the way to go. You can also use your Microsoft Office apps on an iPad.
