Serious copy paste colour shift with 1.9.1 BUG

Recommended Posts

Just got a job on where I need to copy and paste from Affinity to Illustrator CS5 for vector distortions and simplify path, but have noticed that there's a colour shift once pasted into illustrator using the same CMYK profile (FOGRA 27) this has always worked great before, copying and pasting back and fourth retaining colours perfectly so looks like a bug with 1.9.1

Pasting back into Affinity from Illustrator works as expected (no colour shift) so looks to me like the Affinity clipboard as reverted to copying and pasting RGB for external Apps (bad news for a CMYK workflow)

I've tried switching on and off the copy items as SVG which makes no difference, even fired up Designer 1.3.2 which works perfectly copying and pasting back and fourth  see screen grabs

As a temp workaround I'm exporting PDFs from Affinity which open correct in Illustrator and copy paste back to Designer correct

I just had a look at the MacOS clipboard.
This is C, M, Y, K, W rectangles with SVG clipboard enabled:

All in a CMYK document, of course.

Also same in 1.8.4 (still installed on my 2008 MBP in El Capitan).
Also same when copying text to InDesign as text.

Yes, that works, as long as your objects are either fills or strokes.
PDF export separates fills from strokes.

Ha! That's some retro versions you've got going there! I don't think I've got a build local to me that old!

As Loukash points out that the SVG added to the clipboard is getting output with RGB values, I've looked at the PDF that gets added as well and that is also going out as RGB, so that would certainly explain why the colours are incorrect.

I'll get it passed on to development, and see when exactly it broke!

Thanks for letting us know!

Yes Sean P - I thought I had an even older 1.1.x - I remember the splash screen with the original logo with the marker and technical pen - but must have replaced when updating from the app store - I get really nostalgic with old splash screen and really wish I'd have made screen grabs from all past versions - just have an old Mavericks bootable backup and found 1.3.2 and was surprised that it works great in Mojave 👍

My archive of Time Machine backup sparseimages for this Mac goes as far back as August 2014, so guess what's in the /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/my_mac_name/2014-10-13-041421 Application folder:

And yet, six and a half year later, I'm still pulling my long but increasingly scarce hair out from the same issues like unexpected and unwanted color conversion over and over again… Oh well. :(

ACE - I vaguely remember trying out what I think was a pre-release and not having much time to mess around with it as I was just about to jet off on holidays, but within five minutes I thought it was a must have purchase, by the time I'd got back from hols it had been released so I purchased straight away

I remember having loads of problems with all that stuff with colour profiles in Affinity early on and was screaming for 'select same' (we finally got it YAY!) back then as I was used to Adobe setup once and no more worries  - Kind of got a usable workflow together after a couple of years - but I'm still a bit paranoid, so triple check everything, so still have an essential reliance on Acrobat 9 for pre press checks before sending a job off   ----- Oh well.🙂

Just updated all Affinity to 1.9.2 with fingers crossed that this very annoying bug had been put back to normal (losing CMYK and defaulting to RGB) and it's not --- DAMN --- so frustrating that I have to copy and paste to Illustrator and VectorStyler for essential edits (mainly vector distortions and simplify paths), I'd love to crack on and get the job done in Affinity but just can't as these basics have yet to be added - I've been using the copy and paste to illustrator and back for the past four years which has worked great (as a workaround) but it's just getting me down that the clipboard is now broke and can no longer handle CMYK which is essential to my workflow even VectorStyler does this - oh well!?!?!?!?!?

It wasn't fixed during the 1.9.2 beta cycle so I didn't even expect it to be "magically" fixed with the final release today.
But hey, the 1.9.3 beta cycle likely begins today, so let's see if @Sean P's bump has had any effect…

Yesterday I had a top moan about this as I currently have two jobs on where I have to copy paste between Pub and Illustrator for tidyup distortions and because of the colour swap bug I got a bit 'mardy' as we say here in Derby / Nottingham - so I came across as an ungrateful git - so I'd like to apologise to the Devs and Moderators as I know we now have a decent stable release that is miles ahead the original 1.9 release ---

Sorry 😔

Of course not. The 1.9.3. bugfix list is short because likely urgent, as is often the case with memory leaks.

Just to add this is something that we do already have logged, and also affected 1.8 as well. I'll get it bumped!

Blimey - it doesn't seem like that long ago I was working on the last children's book, where everything worked great, as there where distortions on every page - must have been 1.7?
