big smile
Affinity Publisher has a preview mode, which shows how the document will look when it is printed out. In this mode, all non-printing visual indicators are suppressed. However, since 1.8.3. this mode is not respected for empty picture frames when zooming out. Example: Here is my masterpiece. In it, I want green and grey backgrounds and so have used empty picture frames to create this. In preview mode, it looks like how it will print out. However, if I zoom out too much, the visual indicators for empty picture frames appear, even though preview mode is still active. Converting the picture frames to curves does not help (although the issue will go away if the frames are converted to text frames).
Staff Gabe Posted September 23, 2020 Staff Share Posted September 23, 2020 Hi @big smile, I'm sorry but I can't replicate this here. Can you attach your document and/or a screen recording of this in action? Screen_Recording_2020-09-23_at_13_50_55.mov

After experimenting more, it seem to happen when the content comes from another Publisher Document that has been imported in. Attached is: Video showing the problem. "test" file that has the problem. "Child" file that is the file that has been imported into test. capture.mov test.afpub child.afpub
walt.farrell
I'm curious, @big smile, why you chose empty picture frames rather than the (to me) more obvious choice of rectangle shapes if you want a simple color. The issue occurs with rectangles too. In fact, in the examples I have posted, I used rectangles. I dunno why I was calling them picture frames, I guess I got mixed up! I think they actually were Picture Frames in that example, because when you zoomed they got the large X through them, which is only used with Picture Frames. But we would need to see the Layers panel, or your document, to know for sure Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. I see this as a flicker when zooming out, the offscreen area will show the "x" on the picture frames but it does not persist. This occurs in the 1.8.4 retail and the new 1.9.0.x beta.
