Deuzzy Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Hi, I downloaded the latest trial version of Affinity Publisher (1.8) for Mac (OS X El Capitan). I've been trying to import idml files into Affinity, the program opens them, but the text doesn't appear, only can see the text boxes, but there's nothing in them. What could be happening? I also did the test with pdf's, in this case the text appears normally, the bad thing in this case, is that there are no master pages or typographical styles. 😞 Greetings. Quote
Wosven Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Hi, And it's not because the text is overflowing or the paragraph style have "no break" or another strange parameter? If you can't post an IDML file on the forum, perhapsa moderator will give you a Dropbox link to upload a file so they can check what happens. Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Deuzzy. Was the IDML file created by InDesign, or did you start with an indd file and convert it to IDML using some other program like IDMarkz? If it was from IDMarkz, possibly this will help: Deuzzy 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. rogrol Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 I have experienced the same thing—IDML files does not open properly. They have been exported from InDesign. One file I tried to open, Publisher was just sitting there for hours with the processor cores at full blast. It could never open the file. I had to force quit Publisher. Another IDML file opened after a while, but only the first page had text on it. The rest was empty. These files are quite large with 40 - 120 pages. The layout in these files is quite complex. I managed to open a 4-page IDML document. But it also had problems. Many text boxes where slightly too small so that there was text overflow. Another phenomenon I noticed is that the linked Photoshop images in the document was far too dark. In another document they were far too light compared to how they should look. I have set the colour prefs the same as in InDesign so that should be ok. As a test I saved the Photoshop files as TIFF files and reimported. Now they show properly. It is weird because other placed Photoshop files I tried displays correctly. So these are my observations so far. Deuzzy 1 Quote

I tried with two different files, neither of them included the text. Thanks for the welcome. Quote

Hi, I don't think so, since I tried with two different files, the styles are fine, (they even appear in the imported document as I made them) and they are few, there is no overflow text. The result of importing idml to Affinity, are text boxes that are totally empty. Note, I don't know if it affects, but text and styles are in Spanish. Visitor & Lucecita.idml Quote
Wosven Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 That's strange. If I add new text frames and write in them or paste some or your text in them they'll be visible. Quote

The text simply disappears. Thanks for checking. Quote
Wosven Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 I didn't had a lot of time to search in the IDML if there was strange things, but at some point there's a strange "character", not sure what it is, and I noticed you''ve got the track changes active. Perhaps it's causing difficulties for APub to read text data. Quote
Staff Pauls Posted May 7, 2020 Staff Posted May 7, 2020 @rogrol - would you be able to share the IDML files with us. We can then work on improving the import Quote
Gamtak Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 I thougt it was solved but... it wasn't Importing IDML file in afpub failed because of baseline problem (see screenshots). Wosven Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 I don't think it failed, it's just than you need to sort baseline grid and texte frame grid, it seems they are both in use or someting… Quote
