Grab the Lasso selection tool. Then up on the context toolbar, you should see an icon resembling a magnet.

I think Ron P. means the Freehand Selection Tool.
That tool is only available in Photo, Publisher’s Photo Persona or Designer’s Pixel Persona.
If you can’t see it (it looks like a rope lasso), try menu “View → Customise Tools…” and drag the tool to your Toolbar.

Or it may be hiding in with the other pixel selection tools:

Thank you! most helpful! Now comes another question. At the bottom of that page to add it says Drag +^. That symbol on my macbook

is 6 with the shift key pushed ^

I don't think that is what it is saying. Where would I find that symbol elsewhere?

I think that's going to be your Ctrl key, but as I'm not a Mac user I'm not sure.

I can't figure out how to do it that way. There are on the top left corner a few boxes for mode: new, add, subtract, intersect. I found those to work somewhat.

I'm just trying to learn at this point. I do have another question on the other subject. I am going to jump over to it.

thank you!

Yes but not (6)^

As usual Walt is correct the Drag + ^ means hold the control key down while you drag.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
