Crashes when placing an image

Tried to "Place" a png into a blank file twice. App crashed both times.

Please fix asap.

Hi Mr. Hall,

Could you zip up (this stops the forum interfering with the image when uploaded) and attach a copy of the PNG you're trying to place please? Are you using File > Place to place the image and what colour depth and profile is your document using?

Hi Sean,

I am using File > Place.

The doc appears to be RGB/8.

The png appears to be RGB as well.

I have included the original reference image I was trying to place and screenshots of the original image's info and the document's color profile as a zip.

P.S. – The upload of a zip fails the first time. Works on the second attempt.

Hi Mr. Hall,
Thanks for the file - there definitely to be an issue with the PNG file - Photoshop doesn't even open it, yet Chrome and Paint do! However we shouldn't be crashing either way! I'll get this passed on to development.

Yes it crashed Designer for me too!
But if it helps I found that if I open the PNG file in question in Preview and then Export from there as a PNG, this new file will work without crashing Designer.

Yes, I used Preview to save it as a jpeg. That "placed" just fine. Actually did that a few minutes after I submitted the original bug report.

We have made fixes/improvements to this area (Crash when placing or opening attached PNG) of the program in the latest customer beta. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below.

The latest beta builds are downloadable from links at the top of each of these beta forum posts.

• Affinity Designer 1.8.1.611 for Windows
• Affinity Designer 1.8.2.4 for Mac
• Affinity Publisher 1.8.2.619 for Windows
• Affinity Publisher 1.8.2.619 for Mac

These betas install parallel, next to the release version (they do not overwrite your release) and so the fixes can be tried in the beta without affecting your normal workflow in the release version.

Once these programs have been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.1/1.8.2 update/patch to all customers.
