Cannot turn off text wrapping

I had a text box wrap around an ellipse.

I have turned off text wrapping for the ellipse, and I have also disabled the layer with the ellipse.

But still, the text is still wrapping around the ellipse - I cannot turn the wrap off.

What is the problem here?

I have turned off text wrapping in both the text box and the ellipse. 

The file is too big to share, it's a magazine. 

But the ellipse is at fault. I moved it away so I could place text where it was. I kept it to see how I could solve the riddle.

copy and paste the ellipse and the text box into a new document. Does the problem remain? Upload that document. Not sure what we can do without a sample file or a recipe.

Disabling (unticking) the ellipse layer will not affect the text wrap. Text will still wrap around the "invisible" ellipse

It's confusing but it's "as designed" apparently.

 

Still need to see a sample document with just that text box and ellipse in it

I disabled the wrapping via the wrap menu. It is still wrapping.

If you can't create a new document from the elements make a video to demo the effect, take a few screen shots of the Affinity window with the layers expanded and each layer selected with the text wrapping window shown.

It will be easier to just select all the elements on the page, press CMD + C (Ctrl on windows) and then paste them into a new document: Cmd + N then CMD + V Save and upload it here. 

Based on your description of the issue I cannot recreate the issue so it has to be something you are missing or it's a glitch in the affinity matrix, which is why Patrick suggested pasting into a new document to see if there was an issue with the file.

I know what's going on.

Every time I turn off text wrap and I close the text wrap interface, it turns itself on again.

I turn it off, close the interface.

Try to put text there, it is still wrapping.

I open up the wrapping interface: wrapping has turned itself on again. It can't be turned off.

Why can you not please do this for us? It is really unclear to me.

Lets do it in reverse, open this file: Text wrapping turns on and off.afpub text wrapping should work in this document, it works on my system. the text wrapping is active on the big orange circle.

So can you turn text wrapping off in this file?

Read this carefully and more than once...

Failing that, Launch the app with ⌃(ctrl) held down until a Clear User Data dialog appears. Press the Select All button then press the Clear button.

Note this will reset everything to app defaults - user preferences, palettes, macros, everything.

If you want to reset just the UI and user prefs leave just the first three checkboxes ticked and press the Clear button.

Yes, this works. I am a bit unclear about why there are two text wrapping symbols, the left one with the page symbol, the other one with the circle.

I have noticed that they do different things, but it's not clear what the difference is.

Looks like the left symbol is being used to turn wrapping off (the page symbol), and the right one to turn it on.

I don't see the logic in this approach. I would have expected to use the same interface for turning it on and  off.

Your file works perfectly.

I can click on the wrapping circle and turn it on, and on the "no wrap" circle and turn it off. Very easy.

The text wrapping icon with the page icon is to activate and modify the styles of text wrapping including turning the text wrapping off, the text wrapping icon with the circle is to modify the shape of the actual text wrapping around the object being used for text wrapping and the  icon with the x in it is to reset text wrapping should you make a mess of it, so you can consider these two icons  to be kind of toggle switches.

I downloaded the file the first time and couldn't disable it without going through "Edit Wrap Outline" and moving the "Circle".
I downloaded a second time and everything worked as expected, I don't know what went wrong the first time!
