  1. Is there any plan to support iPad mobile / touch interface for Surface (windows) platform?
  2. Hi, Could you give us a way to save interface layouts, with customized toolbars and palettes layouts?
  3. Could be interesting to have the possibility of adding a button to the upper toolbar that hides the interface (the same as pressing the <tab> key). Sure, when hiding the interface elements the ulper toolbar also dissapears.... so it can be necessary to think about another solution, like a floating button that appear when hiding the interface, or that the hide button isn’t on the upper bar and located on the window title bar, or anything imaginative else.... The reason is that the key command (<tab>) not always works... especially when text tools are selected or the like Emilio
  4. When saving a Designer document from the ‘gallery’ screen, the dialogue that displays upon completion needs the words “for speed readers only” added. Or maybe an “OK” button, or some sort of user interaction to allow us to read what went where. It’s a bit nerve wracking to not know where your document actually went upon trying to put it away carefully. 10B72A3A-8BA2-42CA-A9DD-63503A4C934D.MP4
  5. I'm used to the magic of InDesign, but working with Affinity Publisher is my hopeful replacement of this good, but overpriced software. Thanks so much for the BETA testing opportunity. Here's a wishlist and some glitches I've encountered: ● HYPERLINKS: Add the option to include hyperlinks on any text (including when it's saved to curves. (For example, I want to hyperlink /myname on my resume to www.linkedin.com/myname, but can’t, and don’t want to waste the visual space adding the entire link when an icon will do) ● BULLET STYLES: Setting up bullet styles could be easier. In general, I want a small indent on the text after my bullets, and the continuing text on the next line, and thereafter to be indented the same as the first line (pretty standard). Currently, this requires putting in a bullet, changing the Tabstop value, then scrolling up to the Spacing menu and putting in a left indent, which for some reason automatically changes the first line indent, which I then have to change back to zero. I think it would be better if A) changing the left indent doesn’t automatically change the first line indent - really no menu change should automatically change another menu item, IMO. B) The bullet automatically has a more standard indenting default, which people can adjust if they like. I think it’s unlikely that a first line only indent on a bulleted list is anyone’s preference. ● INSERT IMAGES IN TEXT BOX: I’d like to be able to insert an image inside a text box (ie. Where the bottom of the image is aligned with the line of the bottom of the type on a line as the default, but this could be changed, and/or insert an image in a table and have text flow around it. Right now, I can’t figure out if there’s a way to do this. ● SCREEN SPACE / INTERFACE IMPROVEMENTS: The Pages and Assets menu - on a small laptop screen, this is taking a lot of space that could be better used for viewing your design. I’d like to be able to shrink the menu to half the width, or close it completely. There’s a lot of wasted space if you switch to medium or small size page icons, so not sure why it has been given so much real estate! ● COLUMNS: When creating columns in a text box (ie. Not in a table), I would like the option to adjust the space between columns - I see you can move them - adjusting the columns themselves, but I would like to set a different spacing to apply to a whole text box. ● LINES: I can’t figure out an easy way to draw or insert a straight line as a design element. The option seems to be to use the pencil, but requires a very steady hand - would be ideal to set a start and end point and have it default to a straight horizontal, and/or snap to some logical angles when you rotate it. ● PLACING .AI FILES: For some reason when I’m placing .ai graphics, Affinity is adding a lot of extra empty space around the edges, which means the graph/ic is so large that I cannot find the corners to shrink, and/or clip it. I’m working with a really old version of Illustrator, so could be why? This is definitely causing some headaches.
  6. When using the paint or eraser tools on the iPad is there anyway of showing where I am drawing? Like on the laptop (Image below)?
  7. I've used Suitcase to remove extraneous fonts from my user library but there's still a great number of fonts remaining in the system that show up in the drop down of Designer. Is there some way to manage the fonts in that menu option? I know I can limit the number by placing some in a favorites category but I'd like to have the general drop down exclude all the irrelevent options.
  8. There are several times the Designer interface isn't refreshing, although the values seems to been changed 'underwater': EXPORT PERSONA When changing the name of a slice the filename(s) under that slice don't get refreshed in the interface. The filenames show their new names only if you do things like adding a new file. Then they pop to their new state. TOOL DEPENDENT OPTIONS-BAR Eventhough the 'Show Rotation Center' button is selected to always show rotation centers of objects, when switching to a new element Designer doesn't show the rotation center of the new selection in the viewport. In the viewport it's turned off, but it should be visible 'cause the button is still enabled. You have to toggle the 'Show Rotation Center' button twice to make it visible again everytime when you select another object. ARTBOARD When moving elements positions from artboard A to within the bounds of artboard B inside the viewport, the translated layers automatically got moved to the new artboard in the layerspanel. And obviously the coordinate-system for the element are being translated to the coordinate-system when it drops on artboard B. So the x an y positions of the element adjust to their new artboard-'parent'. But that's not visible in the interface; the interface still shows the coordinates as if artboard A is still a reference. So if artboard A is on the right of the screen and artboard B is on the left (so the element moves to the left to go to artboard B), suddenly the elements get a negative position, eventhough they are within the bounds of Artboard B and within the layergroup of artboard B. It looks like it is changed underwater, but the interface isn't updating, which is confusing. As a user you have to do things to make it update now, like clicking on a corner of the squared icon with corneranchors in the transform panel, just to refresh the values in the panel to their new coordinates.
  9. This is a general issue on the three apps from Affinity, maybe not a bug but a "not a feature" but is a nasty issue. When you change a setting in a pane, on most cases, you can't use tab key to go to next field. Yes, it works good on the color mixer, but don't work in almost any other panel. You change a field, and the next tab is interpreted as a regular tab instead of going to the next field. That means than most of the time I end with the studios hidden because tab hide it instead of going to next field. Is the only set of apps I know that doesn't let you navigate fields using tab key and forcing to make a click in each field that you need to modify. I don't know why, because the color mixer works well, so it is clear that is feasible feature. Only other exception is in dialogs, that works because you are on a window and can't go anywhere until you close it.
  10. I understand that the print layout is in the Print dialog because it relates to printing, and that the Layout could be different each time, but I also find it clumsy. I would like to create Layouts that I could save and use over, or use to make another Layout by just changing a few parameters. I would also like to see a more graphic interface. The print preview in this dialog is ridiculously small, and almost useless. The old Page Plus did this much better. Although I specify a Paper Size: “Letter”, the Width and Height shown in this dialog are GIGANTIC!. (see the attached) Since I already created a left margin on the page, I shouldn’t have to do it here on the Print dialog, but I must to make it work.
  11. It would be so awesome to be able to import from CC0 pictures from places like Pixabay, Flickr, Opec Clip Art Library and such.
  12. Hello there, sorry if this has been requested before but I searched and didn't find anything. I have attached a screen shot of how I like to layout Affinity Designer. I know it doesn't leave me much working room on my laptop but it gives me quickest access as I am learning the program. I have been an illustrator user for over 20 years so the transition is going smoothly considering the bad habits I have picked up along the way with adobe! One of the things I like about the 'Studios' concept Affinity uses is its simplicity in how it works. I would like to request the ability to have multiple studios on both the left and right if possible. This can enable more interface elements to be on screen in one go rather than changing interfaces as you need tools. I usually use the tab key to turn off the interface if I need more space but doing this with my current layout leaves me with a big area of desktop that I can't use. As I said, I'm sure it isn't for everyone but it does add to the flexibility of how people can use the interface in whatever way they choose. Thanks, Dan
  13. The typography window/panel cannot be made to accommodate a complete word. This is a bit irritating. Can this be remedied?
  14. The typography window/panel cannot be made to accommodate a complete word. Could an option be available to increase the width of the panel?
  15. First of all, AP is a great app. It may well be the equal too, and in some ways, superior to Photoshop. The problem isn't the tool but in the interface. Or more precisely, learning the interface. Choosing to appeal to PS users, disaffected or otherwise, I believe the Serif team made two incorrect assumptions about those users in development, including: 1. That changing terminology from the gold standard Photoshop wouldn't be a problem. The words we call things matter. Example, if common usage (the base term) is that A is a process that uses tool B, changing the base term to C means that user has to learn that C now redefines the process, renames it and so moves it into a different indexed space, just to find, and use, tool B. That is further complicated if the assignment of A to C using tool B is changed to assign it to tool D without a reference , e.g., "if you used B in Photoshop to do A, to do the same thing in Affinity you should use D to do C." Without that guide, a digital Rosetta Stone, the learning curve becomes much more difficult. 2. That everybody who used Photoshop used the tools in the same way. This may be the greater mistaken: PS users do not use PS the same way. The many-ways approach isn't just a marketing term for PS, it was integral to how many long-term users learned and applied the program. Like many other PS users, I've been at it through several generations of the app, and learned which of the myriad PS ways to completing a task worked best for me. Not the best ways, perhaps, but my ways. In fact, these two assumptions are why I'm struggling with AP and may have to switch back to PS.
  16. I think that Affinity Designer needs to be able to create animations of transformation and transition of an interface and more generally the UI/UX prototyping. Thanks. I love this software.
  17. Hi A very happy user of Designer here. I am using Assets extensively, but wondered if we could have the option of increasing the size of the preview in the catalog. It was also be useful to have the names under the asset instead of only showing up when hovering the mouse. Thanks Simon
  18. In Affinity Photo blend modes are a feature - and I guess most people with some experience have tried them or know how to use them. They are arranged in groups - but it would be helpful if the menu could be presented either with spaces or other delimiters between groups in the menu, of with different backgrounds or features so that the groups become clearer - e.g. Darkening group, LIghtening group and so on. I've not checked right now with the iPad version as well, but it would be good if this also applied to that version. This wouldn't alter the functionality, but might make the interface easier for some people.
  19. Is it just me, or do others find the iPad version and its interface confusing, compared with the desktop version? There doesn’t always seem to be enough visual feedback, such as a visible brush circle, and perhaps sometimes that’s because there isn’t a brush selected or the wrong kind of layer is being used. If the user doesn’t know this, a lot of trial and error “work” is needed to fix things - or not! Some form of status panel could be very helpful, together with better feedback on the photo being edited.
  20. Dear Friends, Hi, my interface is f...ked up. I can't see either the context bar or the the tool bar. I tried restarting with the control key and that didn't help. I tried checking and unchecking the show and hide commands in the view menu, no luck. Also Develop Persona opens with the Studio panel smack dab in the middle of the photo and I can't move it or get to box to click on develop. It seems to be off screen. Help! Thanks.
  21. It would be nice if the Layers panel disclosure widgets had the same behavior as Finder's List view, expanding and collapsing all child containers when Option-clicked.
  22. Please add a histogram with sliders to the levels adjustment just like in the desktop version.
  23. Hi all, I'm trying to use AD on my Surface Pro to design UI wireframes. I almost have a good workflow in place, but it's falling apart because I can't see any way to add arbitrary menu items to the top toolbar. Specifically, I need to be able to add options like "Toggle UI" and "Hide Studio" to the toolbar, so they are just a button press away. Consider AD in the following scenario: I'm working on my Surface with the pen, in "studio mode" (kickstand flat) and no keyboard connected I'm wireframing, so I'm in the brainstorming stage, and I really, really don't want any disruption caused by UI friction On Surface at 200% scaling, the AD interface feels a little cramped, so I work mostly with the UI off However, without keyboard shortcuts, there is no easy way to quickly toggle the UI or hide/show studio panels... so I have to keep digging through the menus using touch/the pen and break my creative flow It's annoying, because I'm so close to having an end-to-end AD workflow that works for me. I want to wireframe in AD with the Surface, because then I can just pick up those designs and layer actual objects on top once I'm with my desktop. A few other annoyances while trying to use AD without a keyboard: Why can't you pan around using a single finger on the background (behind artboards)? You cannot deselect objects just by tapping somewhere else; you have to explicitly deselect or choose a new tool I really, really wish AD could behave like Windows Ink Workspace, and automatically select the paint brush tool whenever I put my Pen to the screen (and eraser when the pen is inverted), then automatically switch back to select/last used tool etc. when I'm interacting with touch So really I just have a series of issues which individually are minor but together mean working with AD is unexpectedly frustrating when just using pen and touch, which is when I want to have the minimal UI friction possible. On my 3440x1440 desktop, I never have any issues with the AD interface... but then I have keyboard shortcuts and I'm not trying to use my pen. Proposal: - Allow adding arbitrary menu items to the toolbar (e.g. View > Studio > Hide Studio, Select > Deselect etc.) so they are one tap away - Add a "Toggle UI" button to the application titlebar (maybe with a fullscreen diagonal arrow icon); this would allow single-tap toggling including when the toolbar is hidden Just solving these two problems would go a long way to making AD more usable as a tablet app to dump brainstorming ideas to follow up on and properly design later! ilmiont
  24. Hi, I mocked up a few ideas that I think would improve the functionality of the Photo merge tools by making it easier to switch between them and add images directly. Say you drag a few images into one of Photo's merging tools, only to realize you opened the wrong one. The commands are grouped in the menu, two have keyboard shortcuts right next to one another, and the tools have similar layouts, making this a fairly easy mistake to make. Rather than having to hit Cancel, open the intended merge tool, then relocate the images you want to merge, what if you could just switch to it, with the images you added still in place? The functionality of the Batch tool seems different enough to warrant it remaining separate. To keep the various merging options visible to the user, it might be best to keep their individual items in the File menu. Each would just open the unified interface to the appropriate tool. It would be great to be able to drag-and-drop directly to the Images pane rather than having to open the file picker, then drop to it, then click OK. The visual styling of the window widgets is a bit confusing; the brighter widgets are disabled. This is contrary to most GUI conventions, including how the OK button is disabled in the tools themselves. If the Panorama tool isn’t resizable because the panorama previews would have to be re-rendered (a processor-intensive task), just fix the width of the preview pane while allowing the Images pane to expand. There is some ambiguity in the Panorama tool when you have stitched multiple panoramas together. If you don't explicitly select all of them in the preview pane before you hit OK, only the last selected one will build. A different button label or counter tallying how many panoramas will be rendered (Render 2 Panoramas) might be sufficient. NTH: a way to tell which images constitute which panorama after the panorama preview is generated. This could look something like the mockup below. Ideally, the number displays next to the panorama preview would handle discontiguous stitches nicely, so if you used three of 4 images out of sequence, something like “1 – 2, 4” would appear next to the thumbnail.
