The issue is simple, the solution IMHO even simpler (it should just work) 1. Create a new DOC in AD with the highest possible settings - Either a QFHD Web Doc with 74 DPI or a Custom DOC with 400 DPI 2. Draw a Circle with 1000px * 1000PX 3. Switch to Pixel View (to see how it will look once exported as a PNG) 4. Zoom up and see the border of the Circle as in my screenshot "Bad" 5. Switch off Pixel View and see the border of the Circle as in my Screenshot "Good" I want to be able to create a simple thing in AD, and export it as seen in "Good" Instead, if I export as PNG, I get "Bad" I also want to be able to create this as a 1000*1000 Circle, and freely resize smaller with the h/w settings, export. Instead results are worse. I am used to AI and there you just do this without even thinking of bad results. Please elaborate how you can export a object created with AD, to a PNG, without having borders/details/etc pixeled instead of a "neat line" That is simply a must. I understand that AD is way cheaper then AI but if a simple thing like the above is not possible with AD, I do not see the sense in buying a license. Thank you

Hello, I must not be understand how the document resize works in Affinity Photo in relation to the dpi. For example if my document is 800 x 600 at 300dpi and I would like to change the dpi to 150 and have the pixel dimension remain and the same so it would now be 1600 x 1200 at 150. If I go to Document / Resize Document the dialogue box opens and unlike PSD if i change the dpi to 150 the document wants to resize to 400 x 300 so it is now half the size and half the dpi density. What I'm I missing?

I'm trying to size images while exporting, it should be a no-brainier to get the image sized proportional, however when I enter one dimension the other dimension remains the same. There should be a check box "size proportionally," unless I'm missing something?

Would be nice to be able to adjust the font size with the arrow up/down keys. These keys work for certain things like opacity and color sliders but not font pt size.

Hello, I like the software you're doing, at least a viable alternative to photoshop, thanks for this, but I run on a small ssd and I have to be carefull with my datas. And I cannot understand how this software can be so heavy on the disk ? Yet it use 152 mb in ram at startup, so the code isn't that dirty.. Some very complex cg softwares take less storage space while being 100 time more complicated so, is there something wrong with my copy or with the packaging ? Thanks Ela

Hi, I love the concept of the export persona in Photo. Surely we've all been there where a large raw file has to be repurposed for many things. I feel this is the idea behind the slices in the export persona? But in this case I want to be able to limit the long edge of a slice so that I don't have to re-scale the exported slices in another step. It kind of feels like it should be there already, so am I missing something (I'm new to the apps)? So, in the export options, for instance in the JPEG preset, I'd like to see: Long edge: px and maybe % options Sharpening (I use quite different values depending on size and purpose) dpi Thanks!

Hi @all, I like to reduce file dimensions (using key command alt+cmd+I) to get pictures smaller. Either how much I reduce the size, the picture looks really out of focus. I made this job in former times with PSE (Adobe) and the quality was after the reducing process nearly the same. Anything I'm doing wrong? Explanation: I have big shots from products and need them in a smaller format for mailings etc. That's why I have to reduce the length from 3000px to 300px per example. Thank you in advance.

Hi All I am very new to Affinity photo and have learned much by searching this forum. However with this task I am stuck so impelled to ask for advice. I am trying to change my photo dpi from 72 to 100 and higher. I use "Document Resize" and it does change but when I export it to a desktop folder the "Info" indicates that it is still only 72 dpi. I am after best quality of course, so from reading here I am using "Lanczos 3 (non separable) I have tried with the resample box checked and again with it unchecked to no avail. Where am I going wrong ? (2015 macbook Pro) Andy

I am in the very early days of using Designer and cannot fathom how I can set preferences permanently. In Illustrator you set it under Illustrator/Preferences but I cannot see a similar option under Affinity Designer/Prefereneces. Every document I will work with will need text as point size (not mm) so how do I permanently set it? The same goes with the document dimensions - I want every document I create to be in mm so how do I do that? Thanks in advance.

Hi friends, Learning little by little. I have a question, How can be re-sized a document, or a layer, slice etc.....once you have decided to export them as png, jpeg, or whatever? I have tried to export a layer from quite mixed up experimental work..(many items on the same document) and it has been easy, but the result in y dashboard was a very little object, because that, of course was the size it had in th canvas. Then....an idea came to me...well If I resise the document, then, I may well resise the whole selction of it, with all the items and all. No problem...but then, all the vectorial brushes thqt I had used for texturizing, and giving ni ce abstraction to some of the objects, were not resized as well, losing all the proportion that they had when they had been applied. mmmmmsorry,,may be I am asking too much, I would appreciate much iyour help for both questions, Size of a document, layer, slice when bng exported, and not loosing the vecto rial brushes proportions as well, thanks a lot in advance,,, Greetings from Bilbao,Spain, Rosa

I'm having a problem with printing in the last few betas. I'm printing to an Epson 3880, and the scaling has gone a bit nuts. A letter size document printing at 100%, prints huge, even with scale to fit, etc. set to 100%. To get it to print properly, I have to manually set the size to around 24%. And then the dialogue box doesn't save that setting, so I have to set it every time. It's also pretty frustrating to not be able to print a fully bleed. Even when I specify borderless printing, AD (and AP) put a small white edge on the print. Right now my workflow is this: build the document in AD/AP, export as PDF, open in photoshop and print. Nutty.

An option for the transform panel to show an objects size including its stroke. -- I've just been creating some graphics in multiple widths; 60px, 120px, 200px wide. The outermost element was a rectangle with a stroke. in order to scale the graphics efficiently via the transform panel I found my self having to use mental arithmetic, and multiple attempts, to account for the stroke width as this is not included in the dimensions shown in the Transform panel. This would be a useful addition as an option for those of us needing precise scaling of stroked objects. Thanks

In photoshop I regularly used the feature trim transparent pixels so that my image would only contain the parts that were actually being used. Is there a feature like this in Affinity Designer?

Hi, I am trying to export a jpeg version of a file I have been working on. There doesn't seem to be a simple way of exporting the file at its actual pixel dimensions. Rather I have to manually enter the file size in pixels which seems a faff. I'm sure with earlier versions of the beta I could simply leave the pixel size fields blank and it would export at native size? Many thanks.

I have a very small Logo - a colored rectangle with some white letters on it. So far so good. Filesizes: Designer = 1.5 mb PDF = 1.4 mb (text in curves or as font, doesn't matter) EPS = 45 kb (smallest size is the same) Same thing as I do a new doc with a simple colored area an some text on it. I think the EPS-size is worth the true estimated filesize here. But the AD and PDF filesize is so much more, is it overhead, just not compressed, or ...? And can I do something about this? Or will we gain more controll over PDF specific adjustments with the prepress overhaul? I tried also to open the exportet PDF in Illustrator and save it as standrd .ai format = 3.1 mb filesize - wow! Then I tried the EPS in Illustrator and saved it as standraf .ai format file = 95 kb. Bigger as the original but also ok. Same thing with all files I do. It seems that AD provides larger PDF files than others. This is difficult for me caus size always matters ;) See screenshot for difference.

First of all: Affinity Designer is one of the best mac apps! I love it and I can't wait for Affinity Photo. Finally I can ditch bug-ridden Pixelmator. You might have already seen my review in the app store in which I listed a bunch of things that I think could be improved or added, but here I want to focus on just one. When you use a brush with size variance enabled you can control the width of the stroke while painting, but it seems like you cannot currently make changes "after the fact". What I hope to see is the ability to edit the stroke width at each node or point along the path, perhaps similar to the bezier handles. Side note: I think there should be a "Velocity (Inverse)" setting in the "Controller" drop-down menu for the vector brush tool options but it's missing. Thanks for stopping by!

Hello, Coming from illustrator I am missing the little tool that lets me resize the drawing area exactly to my design. For example: I opened the drawing area as a A4 format but my draw is just a logo much smaller than A4. Can I resize the drawing are to exact the size from the logo and how do I do that. Thanks for the help.

A dialog box to input a length and width of the square, circle.... ect. when you double left click in the canvas with the tool selected . Also, the dialog box would remember you last input. I know you can input the sizes in the transform box after you draw it out... but I think the double click to size would be a quick nice addition to getting the size you want.
