    The Box Set by Wren

About The Box Set is hundreds of vector and raster brushes made for Affinity Photo & Designer. Each brush was handmade using real materials scanned at high resolutions and crafted to simulate real media. I wanted the origin of the brushes to have a heritage of the materials they are simulating. Scanning pools of watercolor, swatches of paint, and stipples of charcoal contributed to creating brushes with the same idiosyncratic material magic. My only request is that you take these brushes, with their clever names, as suggestions. They work superbly out of the box, but I strongly encourage you to adjust the sliders, rearrange or remove the textures, and discover how they can suit your hand(s). Make. Discover. Repeat. Cheers and happy art making, -Jef (WREN) RASTER BRUSHES For use in Affinity Photo and Designer. The blending brush in the Oil Set is the only one exclusive to Affinity Photo. DRAFTING INK OIL Oil Brush Dynamics Most oil brushes have blending built into pen pressure. With a single brush and hue you can adjust the luminosity of the stroke- giving it an oily blend. The Brush's color in the example above is the color of the background. A normal pressure gives you the hue without any lightening or darkening. 2. Hello again :-) I do transit maps (diagrams) for fun in my spare time to relax. Here is another one of my recent works: a Lille (France) Tramway and Métro system map in my own interpretation (unofficial of course). I have included railways and their stations as well. The whole map is entirely done with Affinity Designer. If you have any thoughts on it or feedack this is much appreciated. Have a great day/night! Chris

  4. Hello everyone, I am a former graphic designer and logo designer. I got Affinity Designer 2 years ago, for graphic design purposes. But now I don't do these anymore. I want to try my hand at digital art. I know Affinity Photo is better for digital art. Is Affinity Designer good enough? or do I need Affinity Photo?
  5. Hey there, It's always a pleasure to share with the Affinity's community how I design my pieces to make the games. regards, Jhonatan
  6. Hello everyone, I’ve noticed a small issue with Affinity Designer for iPad. Whenever I use the pen tool to create a curved path, there is always a small delay from the moment I’ve clicked and dragged on the screen to the moment the path actually appears. This does not happen with the Pen Tool in Affinity Photo and non-curved paths also appear instantly. I’m using the first version of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. I hope this helps.

    Return to 1.6 Text Styles?

Is there any way to get the text styles back from Designer 1.6? I'm absolutely LOVING the 1.7 update and I'm grateful to not have to use Adobe but these 1.7 text styles are just awful. The ones from 1.6 were much better, even if there were only around 4 or 5.
  8. Sundays are always good for experimentation and blowing off some creative steam, without client deadlines and briefs. So for this Sunday I created a poster for one of my favorite Electronic Music producers: Chicane. Chicane has released a few albums that have been my creative companions for many many years ad I always go back to them when inspiration is needed. Here you can see the poster and some screenshots with details. Got any questions? Let me know. I would be more than happy to answer them Cheers from Greece Stratos.
  9. The software (Affinity Designer v 1.7.1.404) don´t recognize my wacom tablet. I´ve a wacom intuos pro running whit the latest drivers
  10. The Summer Solstice yesterday gave everyone in the northern hemisphere our maximum amount of sunlight for 2019. The day after the 1st day of Summer contains exactly 1 second less daylight (here in my region of NY along with anyone else on the globe at this latitude). Each day for the next six months will progressively have even less daylight. LESSON: Enjoy — and don't waste — your daylight.
  11. I used the pen tool on this program way back when (probably late 2017) and had no problem tracing my sketches into vector art. Now when I alt click a node (in 1.7) it turns the entire line straight instead of just removing one handle. Is this supposed to happen? Because right now the tool is virtually unusable.
  12. I've made a document containing 4 artboards, all with the same layout etc. But when exporting to a PDF file their order has changed. Instead of seeing first artboard 1 to 4, I'm now seeing artboard 4 to 1. What am I doing wrong? MacOS 10.13.6 with Affinity Designer 1.7.1 Thanks in advance.
  13. Hello everyone! I've been loving the 1.7 update and publisher, tho I've been having a issue when moving between apps, I have a project in Affinity Publisher and I wanted to move it into the (Full version of) Affinity Designer. (I know Publish haves the Designer Persona tho it dose not have the persona within designer such as the Export Persona) I needed to use the Export person to export a slice from the project. So I went to File > Edit in Designer (this moves the project from Publisher over to Designer (full version (not persona)) I then was able to do what I needed but there seems to move no way to move the project back from Designer to Publisher? Is there way to move the project back? (same issue from Publisher to Photo) Thanks for your time, Andrew.
  14. Latest version of Affinity designer installation keeps failing. Only one topic here addresses such similar case, in which a solution is to do a clean reboot. Wich won't cut it, in my case. As I attempt installation, by pressing "update" in the setup/installation-wizard window. It will say "preparing" and some loading bar will fill up real quick, when full or almost full, it'll simply & plainly display a "failed" in the window. This happens when I try and install the latest version, I already have affinity designer installed. Is that mabey the problem? I just don't want to find myself in a situation where I have uninstalled affinity designer and still it won't work...like me if it won't ha ha. I'm running it in Windows 8.1
  15. Is there a setting to change the way selecting objects works? How do I select one text box behind another, without first having dragged a selection around both, and shift clicking the top object? The bounding box for the top object doesn't actually have anything directly above the object that is below it. But in order for me to select the object below, I have to select them both and deselect the top one. Basically I have an ai that was converted to affdesigner. There are a lot of text objects that converted in strange ways and it's somewhat of a hassle selecting them sometimes. Here's an example. But sometimes it's even more strange because although the "a different text box" in this example, is smaller than the other box, sometimes it's converted in a way where even that small text box is really large. I forget what this was called in AI but I remember there was a setting for it. I think this was in addition to using the direct selection tool. I realize that going forward the best way to make the same kind of looking layout would be to use text box plus artistic text, but I'm dealing with several files converted from AI.
  16. Hey again :-) I do transit maps (diagrams) for fun in my spare time to relax. Here is another one of my recent works: the Sarajevo Tram and Trolleybus Network in my own interpretation (unofficial of course). By the way: there is no official diagram and a pride month edition as there aren't official colors too. The whole map is entirely done with Affinity Designer. If you have any thoughts on it or feedack this is much appreciated. Have a great day! Chris
  17. I have attached a Dropbox link to a PDF version of the Affinity Designer IPad apps built in Help file. You can open this file in a reader or iBook and view it while using Designer. I hope you find it as useful as I do. Please note that this PDF is not in any way supported by Affinity, nor are they responsible for any errors or omissions, so please do not refer any errors or omissions in the Document to Affinity. Every attempt has been made (by me) to ensure the content is an accurate representation of the built in Help file, however some errors 'may' have slipped through . I will endeavour to keep it up to date (at least for a little while) . When Publisher comes out I may redo the layout (Pages is a little limited in the area of indexing). My Dropbox account is basic and limits daily bandwidth, hopefully that won’t be a problem. Here's the link to the folder. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wulycsq0un4uo6i/AACz5hvGbGrteZB4E9q_HPI5a?dl=0 UPDATE The folder now contains two files. Thanks to the efforts of Glenn, the original file size has been reduced to a mere 14MB, with little loss of resolution. Enjoy Dave
  18. Hi, Sorry if this has been already asked. For printing, cmyk is the rule in APub, fine. Now that there is this studio link, I can imagine placing APh and AD files directly in tthe APub file but I am used first to setup my documents in RGB... well, I am a bit confused. Is the RGB/CMYK conversion going to happen during pdf export ? Thanks. P.
  19. Hi, I'm having a problem similar to the one described in the thread here. I want to export my line art which is a vector (see screenshot ‘Before import’) from Affinity Designer to Affinity Photo in order to colour. I export in a PNG format, import into Affinity Photo, zoom in and that's when I notice the lines look really jagged (see screenshot ‘After export with colour’). I understand that the vector gets turned into pixels during export, but I want to make the lines look smoother. Before using Affinity Designer and Photo, I was working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. My workflow back then was to export the vector from Illustrator as a PNG 'without background' to Photoshop. In Affinity Designer I have tried different PNG preset settings (see screenshot ‘Export settings’) including PNG-24 Bilinear, Bicubic, Lanczos 3 (separable), Lanczos 3 (non-separable) all ‘without background’ selected. But all resulted in the same jagged line. I tried the solutions mentioned in the thread above. However when I click ‘Force pixel alignment’ the quality in Affinity Photo doesn’t seem to change. Would someone on the support team know if I need to do something different in Affinity Designer so that when I import the vector in Affinity Photo there’s not a noticeable difference?
  20. Hello, I am a very longtime Serif software user. Over the years I have had the following products. Serif Drawplus 4 Serif Drawplus 6 Serif Drawplus 7 Serif Drawplus 8 Serif Drawplus X2 Serif Drawplus X4 Serif Drawplus X8 Serif Webplus 10 I still use Serif Drawplus X8 almost exclusively, though I own a more recent version of CorelDraw. I prefer Drawplus overall. I would like to move to Affinity Designer soon, however, for the past 5 YEARS I have seen threads again and again with an employee claiming that gradient mesh is on the road map. I absolutely cannot switch to any product that does not offer gradient mesh as I use it in almost every project I create. There is no better way to produce a photo realistic nose on a face in my opinion. I simply will not buy a program without it while I can use Drawplus, CorelDraw, or even Inkscape and find the tool there. I have been waiting, for five years, to see an announcement that Affinity Designer has gradient mesh. I am almost done waiting. I need to know, definitively, will it come out this calendar year? If not, I will permanently move to CorelDraw. I would very much prefer to stick with you. Can you please give me more information than a vague statement that it is on a roadmap? Roadmaps typically finish out in less than half a decade. Is this actually going to occur? If you decided not to do it, that is fine. I am okay with moving to another product but I am tired of waiting for something this board was told in 2016 would eventually come out. Please have the courtesy to tell a life long supporter of your products if this is worth waiting for or not. Thank you.
  21. I have downloaded the latest version of Affinity Designer (and upgrade to 1.7) and Photo. The Photo download was successful but I can't get Designer to open. Once I choose the "download" button, I am never asked for my email or product key. I have uninstalled and reinstalled more than once and still can't get it to open. The message I get after the download is "setup completed successfully". I've tried opening projects I've designed and nothing happens. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out but I'm not having any luck. Here are some details: I purchased my original version of Designer in 2017 I am attempting to download Designer 1.7 I'm using Windows 10 v.1803 64 bit I get the message that the set up completed successfully Designer will not open I appreciate any help or suggestions you can provide. Thank you!
  22. Basically, I'm fairly new to Affinity Designers and recently got a drawing tablet. When I use a mouse to use the vector brush tool it is not shifted/wobbly. But, when I draw the same line with my VEIKK A30 drawing tablet it is all wobbly and shaky. I know I don't have the stabilizer on but, I don't like the way it functions. (I know that's how stabilizers work and are behind the point of your pen but, why are they straight when drawn with the mouse.) Below, is a screenshot I took as an example. You can see the pen settings above in the bar so, please if you see anything wrong point it out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but, I see numerous videos of Affinity Designer on YouTube where they are drawing straight lines without the stabilizer on...
  23. The toolbar has changed (at least for me) since the new update and I cannot figure out how to find the Snap Icon and the Alignment Icon. Can someone please tell how to find those? I know it is a pretty stupid question, but I am really frustrated.
  24. I'm just wondering ... I have 10+ years work in CorelDraw (I've had an Adobe Illustrator license too, but somehow I never liked AI). So now I want to switch to Affinity Designer. But apparently I can't just go and open my old .cdr CorelDraw files. I'd have to convert them to .ai Adobe Illustrator files (and potentially lose line widths etc, anyway it's a tedious extra step). Are there any plans to have Designer open .cdr files?
  25. Is it possible to select multiple lines or objects in Affinity Designer by color or stroke thickness? Like in Adobe Illustrator you can select all lines by a color fill or stroke thickness. This is very important for me to have this function to be able to select colors on my architectural line drawings and quickly change the thicknesses of a color group ive previously made a specific color. Thank you!
