  1. Hello, As part of an ongoing research to baseline grid composition, my colleague and I recently made Fitbaseline, a calculator that distributes the baseline grid over the document height. This is especially convenient when designing a document with fixed sizes (for example in print) in which you want to evenly distribute the baseline grid. Although we developed a version that applies the calculation automatically for Adobe InDesign, the online calculator is application agnostic so it can be used with Affinity too. However, it would be great to see this concept implemented in Affinity applications such as the upcoming Publisher. I'll make a feature request for this soon. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Bauke
  2. I've read before that Affinity has no plans to take on a live dimensioning/ CADtools-esque functionality in the near future, but can you PLEASE reconsider! This is such a gaping hole in the industry of environmental designers (and frustrated Adobe customers). Please please consider! -S
  3. What are the type of work each tool is suitable for? For example I was designing UI and I have been using artistic tool and I saw there was some spacing around the text. For example when I choose 24 pt text using Artistic tool there is some space while for frame tool it's exactly 24 pt. I hope I making sense. I wanted to know in what type of design do you use each one of them?
  4. I miss the replicate tool as in Serif Draw, when you can, let it be quickly then please add Replicate Tool to AD.
  5. Hi guys It seems that I am not able to join nodes from different curves with the pen tool, like I am used to in for example Adobe Illustrator. I think it would speed up my work enormously if I were to be able to join different curves’ nodes with the pen tool instead of drawing extra nodes, selecting these and applying the action Join Curves every time. I hope you will consider this. Thank you!
  6. Hi guys, I finally got into reediting in AP after a long time. I know the questions thatfollows have been answered before, and trust me I searched in the forum but to no avail. 1-So the first one would be, keyboard and mouse shortcut for increasing and decreasing brush size, as of right now no combination of strokes seems to work. And no, left and right bracket keys are no viable option nor do they work on an italian layout keyboard 2-the slice tool in export persona: I do post images on instagram after having them resized to 2048px on the long edge, so for pano I usually use the clise tool on PS and make say a 3 slice off of a pano that has been cropped to 3:1 and export them, so that I can upload them as multipe images to instagram and retain the pano. How do I do that in AP? it seems that the slices are only there for free and rectangular slices...any way to tell AP to slice my document in 3 equal part vertically and export them? 3-Copy one layer mask to another layer/adjustment layer, how do I do that? 4-when I have something selected and marching ant areon, how do I flood that selection with back or white? (on a layer mask) 5-I do like lthe stack option for files I already have on my HDD (I don't know what, but it's freaking stupid fast with 16bit tiffs), but let's say I have 4 layers in a document that I want to align, do I simply select 'Live Stack group' from the arrange toolbar? since it does not give me the option to align layers i am skeptic It'll actually align them PS. I am using English as a language even though I am using an italian layout keyboard. BTW, thanks AP team
  7. Hello I was working on a UI design at 375px X 750px artboard. I used Frame text tool for some texts. I wanted to resize the artboard. So i increased the size using the transform option directly. I increased the size 3 times. Anyways, main point is the Texts didn't increase in size. It increases in size when I use Artisitic tool but not with Frame text. Is there any reason for that? Or was it made that way?
  8. Straight-up newbie question from Christovw66 again folks, I've attached two reference images to help show the nature of this how-to question of mine. Pictured is a hand drawn image of a logo concept emailed to me by a friend. Using the donut shape tool I added the outer ring for contrast, and here is my question... ...what tool or which operation(s) can I use in AD to clean up the edge of the inner, solid black circle (seen in the close-up)? This inner black circle is also obviously not a perfect circle, which is the other thing I need to correct with this image...how best would I approach this? The logo appears to already be in vector form as the above mentioned 'rough-edge' does not pixelate upon zoom in. I appreciate any/all guidance on this, as I realize the questions are quite rudimentary. Honestly, I've tried to figure it out on my own - not being lazy, just have a shallow knowledge of AD ops at this point. Regards, -Christo
  9. When I used the eyedropper tool in illustrator, it copied the attributes of the object that I clicked on with the dropper. For example, when I'm making a square of some color, and I want it to have an opacity of x% and a blending mode of Multiply, all I have to do in illustrator is make a square, then eyedrop another shape with those attributes and possibly change the color (all of my stuff involves layers on layers of differently sized shapes with the same blending mode.) In Affinity, is there a way to do this? The eyedropper copies the exact color on the canvas, and when I want to do my layering thing, I have to save the base color on the swatch, then change the blending mode and opacity manually from 100% normal --> 25% Screen or whatever every single time I make a new shape. The styles menu works kinda well, but it's not really the same speed/convenience for me. Thanks for the help!
  10. Is there a way to convert a Pen Tool path you make into a selection. There is a selection from layer I can do, but I would like to just convert the path into a selection, without having to create extra layers.
  11. Hello everyone! When trying to light a scene, I see some limitations to the "Lighting Tool": There are steps between the different shadings creating an outline for seemingly each used color value. Is this an intended optimization? Is it just the way this tool is limited? Or is this a bug of some sort? I first thought it was a limitation of 8 bit documents, but even after using 16 or 32 bit, this doesn't improve. Best wishes, Shu
  12. I'm having trouble finding all my tools. Can't find the pencil tool and the artboard tool?
  13. How do I make a custom tool toggle that takes me between two tools back and forth? For example pressing B toggles between the brush, pixel, colour replacement tool, etc.
  14. Hey guys, Is there a way to reflect an object in Affinity Designer? I know I can duplicate an item, flip it and then move it to create the reflection. But is there a way I can do it in a single click? Thanks
  15. Hello everyone! I'd like to request a feature: Pressing a shortcut to select a tool shouldn't select the standard tool for that key, but rather the tool that has been used last for that key. For example: When using the "Inpainting Brush Tool", after clicking B for the "Paint Brush Tool", clicking J will not select "Inpainting Brush Tool" again, but rather the "Healing Brush Tool". This means, I have to cycle through all the tools to jump back and forth from "Inpainting Brush Tool" and "Paint Brush Tool". I think the behaviour could be optimized when Photo and Designer use the last tool that has been selected when pressing a shortcut. It would allow a faster workflow. Best wishes, Shu
  16. When opening an original photo with a ratio of 2:3 and I select the crop tool. Having forgotten about this unlucky standard setting of unproportional rezising I change the ratio to something unwanted other than 2:3. Switching the crop mode now to "original ratio" does not switch back to the original picture dimension of 2:3 ratio but just keeps this mistakenly edited crop dimension from the step before and fixes it. Is this a bug or a feature? This way one has to rollback protocol until point of mistakenly changed crop or one need to know the exact doc ratio of the original file to enter ratio manually (great!). Next issue: custom presets do not work! They can be edited but except the first new entry they can not be selected. If selected the dimensions are not executed. The whole individual preset stuff seems to be screwed. I entered a couple of standard new ratios to the panel. Watch the video and see how the mode setting does whatever it likes to afterwards: https://youtu.be/w2CSFy1hTkE Cheers, Timo
  17. I'd like to see a trim tool (select line(s), will delete line(s)_ up to another line). CorelDRAW has one that works really well. Here is a video showing the feature. thanks and great job so far.
  18. I am new to Affinity. The tutorial showed use of the inpainting brush but I can't find it in the tool bar or above the image area. What am I doing wrong? Thank you to anyone who can help.
  19. For Affinity Photo: There is an option to put a + sign in the center of the Selection Brush Tool. Would it be possible so that this sign is changed to the minus "-" sign whenever you switch the subtract mode? The reason I asked for this the Selection Brush Tool seems to start in the mode it was last used it. I believe that most of the time when you start the Selection Brush Tool you want to be in Add mode. If in fact the Selection Brush Tool is in subtract mode then you have a visual clue so that you know to switch the setting. Thanks
  20. Hello, I'm making a slice of a circle with an icon inside of it, the problem is when I try to export the slice, it only shows the circle layer, it does not show the contents on top of the circle. What am I doing wrong? I can't seem to have the contents inside the circle show as being exported with the slice. How do I just have everything inside of the slice export? Thanks
  21. I'm a new user for Affinity Photo. I've bought it today and started using it. My problem is that I can't find the text tool on the left bar along side with the brush and other tools. I found all the text editing dialogue but I can't type to begin with.
  22. Hello, Is there any tool/mode that would offer distortion functionality? I want to grab a whole layer and apply barrel/pincushion distortion to it. Thanks!
  23. One of the very few features I miss in Designer is Illlustrators Group Selection Tool, the +Cursor. I have not figured out how to make this work in Designer, other than selecting every singel vector point in the nested object. Have I missed something here?
  24. Hi all: I have found the pencil tool invaluable but there's always one little thing that it would be nice to have: Is it possible that the point at which the line is started could show as a visible coloured node? Whenever I get to what I think is the point where I started, I'm off target! It's not a huge problem but it would make the workflow faster if I didn't have to clean up too many nodes. I attach a poster I made where I used the PT for all those spiral patterns cut into the kerbstone at Newgrange. It could be that I'm just not using it properly and my apologies if that's the case. BTW I'm absolutely delighted at the way AD is working. Best wishes to all the team,, Kevin
