  1. Just a quickie in addition to the beginners' video link already posted, there are a few others that are suitable for learners in this album. And as mentioned it'll be a set that expands. Cheers.
  2. I promised to post this from Twitter a few days ago, only just remembered to... Can you guys please, PLEASE implement the Numpad Enter key to apply Crop tool, etc? Drives me NUTS to whack it & get nothing! :(
  3. The devs have developed a custom engine that plugs in to some OS X libraries and uses OpenGL acceleration. The early premise for the project was to develop an engine that could handle multiple large documents (e.g. opening many 20MP images) with the limits of an iPad that had something like 80MB memory available to apps. Scaling it up for desktops and laptops has gone well, there are customers running the apps on 2007 hardware, maybe even late 2006 Core 2 Duos. I bought Designer for a friend using an early polycarb MacBook and saw it working very respectably (with a tablet too).
  4. You can lock some layers though, using the padlock icon in the Layers panel, that might help.
  5. Hi Ilymom, welcome to the forums and to the Affinity community. Leave the shape with no fill - you just need to switch from colouring the fill to colouring the stroke (outline), using the control at the top left of the Colour panel. Also switch to the Stroke panel to make the stroke heavier. Here are some vids that will help you get up to speed with how things work in Designer as a new user: AD for beginners 1 AD for beginners 2 Discover the AD interface Other Affinity Designer videos Hope you start feeling more comfortable soon, just ask any questions and the forum will respond! Cheers, Dale.
  6. Hi and welcome to the forums Malco. Click the small arrow on the Healing Tool to expand the tool flyout to reveal other repair brush tools, including the Inpainting Brush Tool. Or press J to cycle through the healing brush tools until the Inpainting Brush Tool is selected. Cheers, Dale.
  7. There are lots of techniques that go into illustrations, be sure to check out the growing set of tutorials over on Vimeo to learn what you need. Best wishes on your journey!
  8. The AMA was great! Jon answered questions for a little over an hour on topics ranging from deciding on a style to move forward with during your career, how to impress an agency you'd like to work for, choosing colours, what made Affinity Designer the right choice for some of his work, upcoming lessons on 3D and Affinity Designer, and news that he's working on some longer animations. The AMA page remains available for anyone who wants to read the questions and answers, I'll lock this thread as the AMA has now closed.
  9. Hi Lanza, welcome to the forums. I'd recommend starting here on Vimeo, going through tutorials in sequence, as they're organised so beginners get started on the right foot.
  10. Potentially worth checking the "Use only integrated GPU (requires restart)" box in Preferences > Performance.
  11. Artist and illustrator Jonathan Ball—whose stunning work you will have seen on affinity.serif.com and in Affinity Designer—is doing an AMA or Ask Me Anything. Chat online with Jon today, February 3rd, and ask him about his techniques, his inspirations, his Affinity Designer tips, how he became a full time designer, how he designs in 3D or animates, how he secured top-name commissions like Sony and MTV—anything! The free AMA is being hosted by Skillshare at skl.sh/pokedAMA at 7.30pm GMT 8.30pm CET 2.30pm EST 11.30am PST You can see more of Jon's work at pokedstudio.com, you can sign up for his free tutorial series on Skillshare, and of course chat with him in the free AMA TODAY! Thanks for reading, Dale.
  12. I'll close this thread for now pending any other announcements. Cheers, Dale.
  13. Yes they liked a lot of different posts. Flagging an account as a spammer disables their ability to post, but they can still Like things if they're really bored. If I notice spam accounts that don't go dormant once posting is disabled I have been known to delete them; it's quite a few extra steps while disabling posting is only one click. A couple of spam accounts had a major Liking spree so were deleted a while ago.
  14. Hi GM, this creates a selection based on the lightness data of a layer. This might take you to the right Help topic... copy and paste in a browser file:///Applications/Affinity%20Photo.app/Contents/Resources/AffinityPhoto.help/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/pages/Selections/selections_fromlayers.html
  15. Hi Jan. That's an Apple feature promotion. The normal price is still incredible value, you'll reap the benefits every day.
  16. Hi GM, it's now in the Workspace section just above the Appendix. You can also search Help too.

  18. Hi Sandfräulein, there's no specific tool for this but when you're editing curves you can break a line at any given node, or join tow selected lines together, using contextual buttons on the top toolbar - when you have line editing tools and suitable objects selected. HTH.
  19. Welcome to the forums. I think it would be useful if you could attach the .afdesign file or share what the font was for testing purposes TG. Thanks.
  20. Hi Ronny, you can get round the smoothing by changing how the object blends against what is behind it. Click the cog in the Layers panel and adjust the coverage map to have a square profile. Hope that helps.
  21. Hi Jan, I found this too in my testing. I can't go back to 1.3.5 to compare but found the same as you. Cheers, Dale.
  22. Hiya Digbydo, I'd recommend watching the videos here in sequence so you can learn the basics of the app and managing layers, then look into making selections to isolate areas, and then you can use adjustments to achieve what you want. Vimeo album for Affinity Photo Cheers, Dale.
  23. Hi Gal, welcome. Yes there are a few tutorials that focus on the basics, they're at the beginning of the list on this page: Affinity Photo videos on Vimeo Best wishes, Dale.
  24. Well, while I like that you're engaged with this issue, I don't think it's fair to say that our people do not include professional web developers. The Affinity web developers felt similarly. A fix was not deemed urgent before as there are workarounds and also muuuch bigger changes on the way, but since you raised it the guys are rolling out a fix. It's a change in the WordPress theme, not the suggested edit to the javascript that would have had consequences across the website.
