  1. Canva acquired smartmockups in 2021

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-02-22/australia-s-canva-buys-european-design-startups-to-fuel-growth

Canva is shutting off smartmockups later this year:

All the beautiful promises means nothing because they are not legally binding. Affinity is not partner with Canva but employees of Canva, and no matter how many pledges the beautiful people of Affinity will make because they have to hand all of their user-base to Canva, Affinity is still having no power in enforcing any of them.

The only thing I want is to open my Affinity applications without being online verified. I have hundreds $$$ of purchases in add-ons and no power to use them if one day 3 years from now the verification will fail because Canva will decide that they have other plans for my future.

So I’m not asking for beautiful promises, and I do not believe them either. What happens to smartmockups is incredibly upsetting and off-putting and only by pretending it doesn’t happen one could be optimist that Affinity, which has no power over their future because they are employees to Canva now, will not share the same fate sooner or later.

It goes without saying that I love Affinity and everyone behind this beautiful product. I wish you all the very best.

  2. It’s easy to criticise and reject AI from a hobbyist standpoint; not so sweet when on FS’s like fiverr the work you’re doing is made a hundred times more precise and quick by designers who use AI, literally pushing you out of business. Serif embracing or not AI features will not change the fact that our reality as artists and designers had been irremediably affected already by the generative AI. As ugly and fake our artistic reality will become, there is no turning back from it.

  3. Yes, you are right, thank you. I’ve been re-installed both apps before testing but while the retail version has auto-apply button selected by default, the beta version does not (and its place has changed); hence the confusion.

Maybe a mod could erase this entry altogether — if there’s a bug it has nothing to do with this post.

  4. @NathanC Thank you for your detailed reply.

I don’t think this issue is iOS 17 or Stage Manager specific. I asked a friend who has iPad Pro 2019 (A10 SoC) which runs on iPadOS 16 and I used the iPad Magic Keyboard on all Affinity 2.1.1 apps. There are issues there too because the trackpad does not work on selecting or editing the text at all (the keyboard works for everything else), so I’m thinking it could be a Magic Keyboard-related issue, maybe?

I made a screen-recording below on my friend’s iPad, which shows the trackpad of iPad Magic Keyboard not interacting with text at all. Regards.

  5. First off, thank you for being once again completely transparent with the community. In these crazy times when thieves use more and more sophisticated means to scam, no one is safe. Who made the mistake or how is irrelevant; it can happen to anyone. What’s important is that we’re now aware of the attack and its possible fallout.

Secondly, I don’t know about other members but in 9 days since the cyber-attack took place, personally I see no spam/ phishing attempts. Of course I’ll continue to monitor my email activity for any possible fraudulent attempt — but so far so good.

    Regards.

  6. Somehow I missed the last reply. It’s probably not of any help now, but the iPad and all the apps are in English.

At least with the Magic Keyboard, erasing a shortcut will assign the Erase key as shortcut, but in the shortcut list no key is registered (the space for shortcut is left empty).

I think the Erase key should be  registered as a shortcut, with a symbol, just like any other key. Regards.
