The Persona buttons are in the usual place - they're not showing selected state correctly in this video, nor are there as many of them as there will be in the finished product, but what you can see there is real.

@Fatih19 thank so much have found Matt words ...

Unless they're placed elsewhere in the Mac version of the app (which I don't think they are), the image clearly shows there are no Personas, only the icons for the apps. I'm not saying this is bad or anything, but it might be a clue for those willing to speculate on what's going on. :D

I for one have no idea, I'll be happy to discover in the summer. :P

Can i say here that AD and Photo will be "Like APub Personas" in the first version, each one opening an independent instance of existing softwares, which i believe must be installed on the PC/Mac in order for this to work as expected ... Or will Serif deliver a Light Version of APub which connect with existing instances (AD or/and Photo) but also another kind of "Affinity Studio" where all are bundled and properly connected together as one reactive but intuitive solution.

I'm just trying to imagine how good Serif Products will become, i know all this already exist with other companies but can be revisited and perfected by Serif.

by the way thank you All !

  2. To me,

1- there should be a way for community of user to help Serif by donating. Those who really love the products won't mind donating to help the vision last long.

2- the "edit to" is good but a bit of tuning could make it a magic tool.

Here let say: picture placed into Apub then right click edit with Photo after that just save and close the work to see it updated into APub. Same with Ad... But this is just my idea of things

I totally agree with this one, precisely the ability to create custom templates, presets and import other templates and presets.

Then one can fill the gap of missing templates that he want for his day to day work

I already think that it's convivial. Can you specify?

    @Fatih19 Yes for sure.

In fact the design is okay for a starting product, it's same thing i've seen with Debian Linux years ago.

All the icons set in the interface is good but only for a starting product.

i mean when you look at front end design peoples achieve using AD, it's really impressive but the software itself is like stuck with its first generation interface.

I would advice for icon set polishing a bit more of flat design or metal or even minimalistic (like the one you have when you use dark theme on Mac).

Also i believe going minimalistic with high quality icons set and well organized menu will make the thing even better.

Please i'm not saying that this or that should be remove but i'm saying reorganize it to make more touchable, discret, efficient but beautiful and lightweight enough to load faster than it's actual load time.

Also the splash screen has to be upgraded with nicer but light Presentation.

i have attached an example of what i'm thinking about but please do not consider all different colors but instead visualize the idea behind.

a- Current Affinity Designer Tools (The top 4 are Nice) but others seems to be coming from another inspiration than the first one.

b- Current Affinity Designer top bar (Here all shall be redesigned to be more realistic and pure)

c- Just an idea (here please ignore the colors, reflect etc)

    3-Design-Tools-Flat-Icons.thumb.jpg.1478f9198a30c1595a9b71bee36f6c8c.jpg

d- This is what we can find out there (just to bring balance into all this idea)

    ADOBEPSpic.thumb.png.335e2e7b6ed847b70214f924ecb93447.png

Now everything is put together for a kind of brainstorming to take place.
I know there are very talented UI designers in this forum who can come with very nice inputs and realizations that can help the Dev team for next releases or even comfort them in case they where planing something like this but wanted some inputs.

Another Good solution would be make of the same kind as they look too different one from another except the top 4 i mentioned.

  5. Hello,

I strongly believe that Serif need to improve the Affinity interface for both Designer and Photo.

Affinity softwares deserves a more convivial user interface, more or better conviviality will even increase productivity and help inspiration to flow easy.

Not that it's bad but a refined interface /icon set and menu less what it is now may help.

I mind what other users of Affinity have to say about this.

  7. Guys !

Thanks a lot for your inputs, this is very important for a lot of person as we are not all at the same level of knowledge regarding Book editing, Publishing etc.

I found that talking so clearly and simply is the best way to bring up some nice ideas that can profit Serif Dev's team to make APub be even better.

From what i have read up to now, most of us here ask functionalities trying to make Affinity products to become what we all are trying to get rid of.

So i though, why don't we just raise some points in already existing topics and have all the Genius here to just help by sharing their personal experience in field not comparing and not looking at a precise already existing software but just things that make their day to day job be what it is.

i myself use couple of softwares to process my job and they are all good and Affinity is just what makes me happy because it fits with my needs.

it will evolve and become better, let's give Serif a chance to not kill Affinity products like it was the case for the Legacy tools most of us used and appreciate.

Let's put thing together not trying to make APub become ID nor QXP not Scribbus nor one of those out there but just Affinity Apub.

Dev's sorry, forgive me if in one way or another, i asked or wrote functionality requests that tends to make APub to look like all my "old soft fiancée".

You can only use one page size within a single PPP project file, but you can have a mixture of portrait and landscape pages in the same file.

If you have any further questions relating to PagePlus, it would be best to post them to the CommunityPlus Forum.

Thank you @AlfredI believe this is another functionality Publisher should offer, kind of  multichannel multichannel design possibility for the same project,

Different scale, size and orientation would be of great help.

Enabling people's to create and put together in the same project : a booklet + it's poster + anything needed for the same campaign.

After creating them all just export or print directly without having to worry of think about opening this project then this other one then other one again when they are all made for the same client or company

I'm sure it can. I regularly use it for school newsletters with page counts ranging from 12-36 pages and with many pictures. I also used PPX9 to produce professionally printed school yearbooks. The last one was 144 pages with hundreds of photos and graphics.

    Very interesting.

Can PPX9 handle a creation communication kit for social media such as : banner, profile picture, flyer etc... All created in the same project but scaled in different size formats using the same fonts, pictures etc...

I mean can I work on a project of 120 pages all declined in different sizes but using same color and text content for the same client using PPX9?

Adobe products bypass the OS font subsystem. Which is a good/bad thing, especially for ID which uses a completely different font subsystem than say AI or PS. With ID, it is extremely picky about fonts. More so than AI. I have investigated a thousand fonts for ID users over the years when weird things happen in ID (from crashes to extreme slowness) and that reportedly do not happen in non-Adobe software. Those fonts have always had issues.

There is a larger thread regarding color fonts. I find minimal utility for the most part, but hey, QXP can use them so why not (in the upcoming release).

    I didn't said Thank you @MikeW

    This is life saving information.

Now I know Publisher will do better than ID with fonts.

Please Serif do not make the subthing setup in Publisher

Unless there is the capability to color as desired, access to the palette, then there is little utility except to create something using such fonts that looks just like the other guy.

At least with layered fonts, each part, each layer, can be colored as the design dictates.

See @MikeW manual work is good but when things already exist why not just make use of them enjoying the ease of use they bring.

Just imagine how much time these fonts styles will help many of us to save.

They also are source of inspiration for those who will be interested to improve them.

Unfortunately, this is not in the roadmap so if they will implement this, it will be in 2.x version or above. They need to implement this tho, this is a very useful thing to have as an Illustrator. In all of their software IMO.

I mean even just the support of this type of fonts would be of great help then next version would come with few or more of this

  13. Hey everyone

i have found there is a great stand alone app on the web that's can be helpful to all designers and photo designer.

    it's called ColorWell.

it's works very well and help generate palettes of color for a project on the go like the Adobe product doest but the must is that this software works offline.

it's may help for demanding peoples when you can't results you want with the functionality already implemented in Affinity Designer.

i myself work with both solution they help balance and do a better job of color choosing.

Though this may help someone out there

    Very interesting.

    See !

i know we are all asking Serif Team to implement all this geometrical stuffs and many CAD style functionality but i realized we may lose the focus at some point about all this, Affinity Designer is more about Design, drawing etc... artistic stuffs (that's my understanding and maybe a Dev can correct me here).

Then i took my own case in order to ask for something that can be useful to many and which is more actual to everyone: Fonts !

As far as i experienced Design software from this or that developer, Affinity Designer and Photo are the only Softwares which are able to open my fonts base very quick and have me jump to the typography work faster.

i have around 4986 fonts installed on my macbook pro, i use them many purposes (Book editing, Flyers, Poster of all kind, Business cards of all kinds, etc...) so i work a lot with fonts and the only software that is reactive when i type "T" on my keyboard to switch on "Text" is Affinity Designer and Photo, InDesign takes up to 3min to load or give me access to text field and update a content or write a new content.

Out there some says, you have bad fonts etc... i have checked and double checked but no bad fonts found and in the same time Affinity is able to open them and let me work with, what a good tool.

So my point, let's ask for what will make Designer even better, not that i'm saying all asked things and functionalities are bad but what if we really ask what will help us release the Design Genius is us and bring more color in this grey colored world.

Fonts are the front line because after looking at colors (picture included), peoples Read the content

Thanks @Arnaud Mez, because of your post I finally have a great workflow with Spine wich I bought years ago but never really used. That software together with Designer are briljant indeed! That JSON output generator in Designer is really making me smile and makes exporting for use in Spine so much more fun! So thanks again for your tip. I'm gonna dive into Spine more now! It's indeed even better software then Adobe Animator/Flash once was in optmized animating for webgraphics and games.

For the other use; video-effects, I still miss a decent alternative to After Effects though. I use Natron now for effects and some other mwha mwha programs for video editing, but I'm really missing a real competitor wich has both great effects and a keyframable timeline with layers and stuff. A real replacement for After Effects is something I'm looking for for a while and it seems like a lot of other people do too. If Affinity decides to fill that gap too that would make my day and I would buy it without a blink!

    Tank you so much @Friksel

Can you please tell me more about Natron.
I'm in fact looking for a software that will help me create good text animations such as the one you can on Youtube channel Motion Cafe.

Sorry for pointing there but i'm from that old generation of disco, techno, funky lifestyle with all this 8bits machines we once loved to death !

Now all these AR, VR stuff is just a bit too complicated for me that's why i love Affinity Designer so much.
It's resurrect the 8bit stuff in me !
