  1. Thank you for recognizing this problem and stepping up in protection of disappointed users.
  2. I'm referring to these laws. Mainly "Perpetual software can be traded freely = the ownership right can be transferred from one acquirer to another." but other conditions apply. If a company sell software or service to EU resident customers they have to comply with EU laws. (And before I get attacked I want to state that I don't say they are breaching the laws, I'm just asking their opinion about the situation.)
  3. Does this solution complies with the EU laws about selling used software?
  4. Sorry if you feel that way, I just point out that most replies are not "alternative views" or arguments against or for the topic in question, just sidetracking or misunderstanding. How is "I hate to break it to you - Europe doesn't care about Black Friday... " an alternate view about this topic? I don't understand your remark about the technical part, I've even gave a solution idea to the problem. Maybe I've missed the specific comment you mention. Anyway, I've already said what I wanted to say, so have a nice weekend for everybody.
  5. You missed the point. Apps have trial period, that's fine, but irrelevant. They don't tell when the time limited discount ends, creating FOMO. If the deal ends before you trialing the software, then you are stuck with the only option to buy it for full price. That is an example of a bad customer relations. It's good to hear that you have positive experience with customer service in the sense of application support. But this has nothing to do with the remark about customer service in the sense of pressuring the users to upgrade V2 by offering a discount that can end any time or else you have to pay full price.
  6. This is the example of the hostility in the forum I mentioned before. What does this remark adds to the conversation? Nothing. Does it contain a good argument? No. Does is disprove any of my points? No. It's just an irrelevant statement trying to shift the conversation to a pointless dispute. ON1, DXO, ACDSee, and others all have 40-60% Black Friday deals every year (on top of their permanent upgrade discount). And these are all available in Europe. So what is your point?
  7. Sure, 40% is better than 20%, but these are two totally different things. The 20% discount is a constant upgrade offer that you can use any time, and if they have deals then the deal discount comes on top of that 20%. The 40% is a time limited black friday/release/whatereveryoucall deal, and you get no incentive to upgrade after it's over. That's the problem.
  8. What is not clear about that they don't give upgrade possibility for existing users? That's a fact, it's on their FAQ page. How they explain the cause of it is a different thing. I understand that there are technical difficulties. But these are known since the beginning so they could have come up with a solution in the past years if they wanted to. If the problem is that they can't connect the app store purchases to affinity accounts, then it can be solved by adding an option to log in to affinity account from the V1 app. Then they can register that the account has purchased the app. Different prices for different users in the V2 app can be achieved by enabling different in-app purchase prices depending on what previous versions do you have registered on your account. But these are all technical nitpicking. The main problem here is that they do something that nobody else did so far, disrespecting their existing users by giving no upgrade path. (And a different problem is the hostility in these forums. If anybody explain their opinion about the situation, then they are labeled as greedy cheapskate, and get personal attacks from multiple users who seemingly ignore the underlying problem with this bad precedent. Don't get me wrong, I'm not addressing this remark to you personally, but you can see what I'm talking about if you read back.) "Arguing about any other option is just theoretical." No. Arguing about any other option is a must. If other software vendors see the precedent and realize they can simply drop the upgrade options without any backlash, then they will do it too.
  9. You don't have to explain anything. The situation is clear. The difference is only how people feel about it.
  10. Are you serious? Have you ever bought software? Giving upgrade possibility is the default for any other software... Affinity is clearly going against the tradition here, and it is totally understandable that the people don't like it. I don't understand why many of you pretend that Affinity is a saint for giving 40% discount. That's a normal Black Friday discount that everyone gives in this month. And if the deal is over, then all existing users can upgrade only for full price. This is total opposite of what everybody experienced with other software so far, and it is a very wrong precedent.
  11. I don't really like the mentality about this situation. One user asked a totally legit question about upgrades. Then everything he got is personal attacks from multiple users. But the worst is the victim-blaming of people who bought the software recently. Blame the user why he bought the software, really? Guys, this is insane. Do you think it is a good business practice to abandon all fresh users or make them to buy the software again if they want bugfixes? Providing upgrade paths and incentives is standard in software industry. I don't understand why everyone pretends here that this is not the normal procedure for every paid software since more than 30 years... It is not about the rate of discounts, but the appreciation of the existing users, or lack of it. It is clear, that Affinity's current procedure is against the norm. I just have one question, when Affinity releases the V3, will they do the same with the old users as now?
  12. What about a simple registration process? The users log in to their affinity account in the application, and the application sends the activation status to the server. This way you will know what users already have which V1 software. I just want to point out that if you would want to do it, then it would be possible somehow. I mean, all other software vendors can do it. However it seems it is already decided and you won't do it. Given that the 40% release discount is time limited (but you don't tell us how long, creating FOMO), what happens after the deal finishes? Everybody can buy only for full price. If an unfortunate user purchased V1 licenses a few months ago, he now has an unsupported software without any incentive to buy it again. My disappointment is not just about that extra discount an upgrade path gives, but the missing principle about appreciating the existing users. What about the future? If you release the V3 (when?) will there any upgrade path that time? Or do you use the same tactic as now?
  13. I don't fully understand the excuse. You say that you cannot identify users that bought V1 in, for example Mac appstore. But if I buy the V2 universal license now in the Mac appstore, then my software can be activated on an other Windows machine too. So you can still identify me, right? Why can't you use the same identification method for existing V1 users?
  14. By looking the other forum topics I've learned that resizing by percentage is possible by directly writing 50% instead of the pixel value. I also learned that to find out which value is the height and the width, I have to hover the mouse over the values because it's in the tooltip. I think it would be good to have hints for these options somewhere on the GUI. I also miss a list of the common sizes I could choose with one click, instead of writing values. By comparison, please see the Resize dialog of the IrfanView. It's a little overhelming at first sight, but every option is clearly labeled. The old and new values are there, no guesswork needed. The most common options are accessible with one click. I think you could use the ideas there to make the Affinity resize dialog more straightforward.
