I would thoroughly recommend the DrippyCat video tutorials, I have done several, top notch and an excellent teacher.

I also have the Workbook and it has some great stuff in there but I find it's more useful if you have a particular thing you want to do and look it up in the Contents first.
I did work through the whole thing when I first bought it but a lot not relevant for me.

Hello all, just reappearing briefly to post a new video! It covers how to achieve the Orton effect in Photo. I've seen various videos and guides that more or less replicate the Photoshop method, but that's a destructive approach, and I wanted to demonstrate a few tweaks to make it non-destructive. Hope you find it useful!

For years I have struggled with various releases of Photoshop...just when you think you have mastered it, Adobe comes up with more useless overkill features and now insist that everything goes to the Cloud (I hate it) along with this, you can never own the product but "rent it'...as night follows day the 'rent' increases every year.   AND THEN......
enter, Serif Affinity Photo - what a welcome breath of fresh air to we fledgling Photographers on a budget. I was going to purchase the Product after my PS subscription ran out some months hence, but after seeing some of the Affinity Tutorials on Youtube, I couldn't wait, so purchased it and use it many times a day, never returning to that 'Other' product (despite still paying my monthly dues until my contract is finished)
Accolades to Serif for Affinity Photo and please don't go down the path of annual subscriptions or uploading to the 'Cloud'
My only request is that you make available a written manual in pdf format so that ready reference can be easily accessed.
    Chinderah.

I have printed out the long list of topics covered in the very useful videos - is there a version that puts the video number against the topic.

There's no memory leak that could cause you to reboot your machine in order to fix it. Even if we leaked memory, when the application is closed, Windows would re-claim the memory for use by other processes. It's more than likely some Windows update, or some driver issue.

I have produced a pdf version of the Affinity Photo manual that you can read without starting the program. It can be interesting to put it on your phone or tablet to read when you have some time to spare. Since the file is too big to upload here, I have put it on Dropbox for you to download. It is current for the last version of Affinity Photo. Comments welcomed. Here is the link:

Not only the comments you make are so relevant, but think how easy it would be to update the written word to match updates in the software so that all readers would be able to keep up with changes.  I don't know why Serif elected to go hard copy only, but the demand for digital publishing and the reasons for it, seem to be growing.  I would at least think that Serif would share their logic instead of allowing discontent to flourish.  Serif has been an excellent software supplier for decades and has a strong audience, and is a company that folks want to support.  I really don't understand why this can't be addressed.

I also posted on one of Affinity group om facebook, hard copy of book is very inconvenient to use, its heavy and stiff makes its very unusable, on the other hand if we get digital copy we can use it side by side on mac and on ipad and that will be a killer combo and best way to learn.

I'm incredibly torn on this subject and I can see it from both points of view.  I can see why they would be worried about losing out on sales due to people sharing the book digitally without buying multiple copies.  Be that piracy or 'helping a friend out' or whatever the case may be.  However, I think they are missing out on potentially more sales due to the fact that it isn't available digitally.  I did buy a copy of the Designer Workbook, and it is very nice and I'm happy to support the company as much as I am able.  However... lugging that around is a bit of a pain in the arse along with my Macbook.  I do think, however, that there is a happy medium for everybody.  They already have their video tutorials as well as the ability to download samples of other peoples public artwork.  I think that could be revamped/updated in such a way as to have the workbook built into an easily update-able tutorial.  If it were built in, even at an extra cost, then it could be updated incrementally along with the software.  Then you don't have it being available to the masses and easily copy-able.  Build it into its own panel, allow that panel to be popped off to the side and go through the workbook alongside your art instead of having to balance a book while hoping it stays open to the proper page.

OR just have a one-time use license in the copies of the hardbound books that enable that feature.  Then we still get the nice keyboard shortcut pages as well as a digital format that's more portable.  So maybe we can come together as a community and make something like that happen.  Build the support for the program up and help it grow while making life easier on us as well.  Just my own thoughts on it.

I'd like to provide a little Christmas present to the community, some textures to use in Affinity Designer.

I think I've spent a little time over 23 years creating seamless tiling textures. I gave them away when I was a host on a previous website, I thought this wonderful program and crowd might like them, too. I'd discovered early on that this is the way to get a bitmap fill inside a shape, and AD doesn't come with an assortment.

I've never sold a collection commercially, I'm not sure if I need to...this is just a fun hobby for me, to get a texture to seamlessly tile, and to make the texture unique. I have some wood and rusty metal textures but heck, you can find these for free just about everywhere! :)

Let me know if posting this media is welcome or not. If it's a hit, I will post another texture pack after the Holidays. I have to design my Christmas card for inkjet printing now, no rest for the weary!

It might be good to mention that you cannot import the .afmacro files unless you have an open document.  I kept trying and nothing happened but as soon as I opened a new document, the icon turned white and It all worked perfectly.
