sometimes its kinda strange in here ...

battle of words and such where no one is eighter completely wrong or right. and sometimes i have a strange kind of feeling that too many seem to be forced to defend affinity or serif wheres no need to. and the discussions over stability towards mac or windows are quite useless anyway.

the thing is (just my two cents): if serif would claim to be only for the 'average' users or just for the fun stuff side and not charging anyone for anything, alright. but they dont. and even more as the software is claimed to be for professional use also - what would be any better for serif than those who uses this every day (if not for work), reporting issues and such? its kinda development stage for free and even getting paid themselves... ;)

so yes - there are chrashes. and yes there are demands for new features. development has to be towards more reliability and enhancement of existing features as well as new features. hard job. but i hope they will manage it - last update already lead to much faster startup times e.g. - great.

so dont damn those who want more features, nor those who are reporting issues or want more stability. btw. i want both
so hopefully serif listens to all, sort things out and go for wise decisons.

at the end (supposing) we all want the same: a good reason to ditch off the old bulls with confidence!

I partially agree with you, I've noticed a considerable amount of bugs and crashes that need to be sorted out. That said there are some crucial features missing that prevent me from using these apps full time. However I am hopeful some of these will be added in a near future, without compromising stability and bug hunting, since they're reasonably simple and some are already half-implemented anyway.

That's the best guess I have at the moment and the most logical I must add. By the way, I think you should re-consider your statement as it is clearly wrong, I never said *everyone*.

I tried to push the survey. It is the first survey I ever done and only later I realized I didn't include the Mac/Win question.

Anyway, I seriously believe something like this would be very useful if it would come from Serif unless of course they already have their data then it would be really interesting to hear from them.

I don't think different hardware, OS and so forth nowadays can still be considered the main reason, although obviously has its impact. It is not only about the program but the OS as well and Windows is way more stable than in the past, making the applications running on it very stable as well.

So, what do you suggest? Do you think that keep adding features on something that is not stable nor fast yet is the right thing to do? And let's not get stuck in the numbers here as neither you or I have them and of course, if you do, please show them. At least I can say I have *some* numbers, which is more than nothing.

I don't want to be polemic, I'm sincerely being rational.

... hmmm. always regarding the print file factor.

but thats not what i'm after... its the way in between ...and yes, i know (has been mentioned) dealing with 16bit cmyks is obviously an pre 2000 behaviour
so this seems to be an argument anyway.

but eighter way - it would be really poor if i would have to tick that point off. not even being able to handle lots of existing content aggravates the real change to affinity unnecessarily.

cant imagine it would be this complicated or heavy labour to implement it.

dont know if or how often this one may be asked for already (search is empty on this)...

i really need to have 16bit CYMK tif support for images in both design and photo.
should be possible soon - shouldnt it?

cant imagine any reason why this isnt already there and be able to edit/use existing tifs wich 16bit cymk color space.
quite annoying and makes it impossible to use affinity for eyery case i have to deal with them.

    please!

dasigna got a reaction from F_Kal in color management in affinity - trying to solve problems
    news to this...

as the weather wasnt really great this weekend i did spend a 'litte' time on this issue in the warmth of the office.

with no real success - and for some time honestly completely doubted to all my knowledge on colour-management and how to set up things the right way ...
then gave up trying and did the following, as new profiling had to be done anyway within the next one or two weeks:

    - deleted all assigned profiles within programs and os
    - did a factory reset of both monitors
    - calibrated them from scratch (three times each, to ensure consistent results/two hours only to this one)
    - assigned the new monitor profiles within os
    - assigned all profiles anew within all programs accordingly.
    - did a complete reboot and started all programs one after another with a .pdf solely buildt for testing with several cmyk-targets.

after that, all programs showed no recognizable change in colors and behaved as before... but: tadaaa - affinity suddenly also worked as expected!
one might start some discussion now, about how close the screens are to printed targets (at all), but at last theres some good starting point to really dig into the affinitys!

i really dont know what went wrong the time installing affinity and not showing correct colors even the nearest. so i might only guess that affinity at first did not recognize something quite right according to color-settings...? only possibility to me, because there wasnt any change - not in calibration nor in colour-settings or deployed profiles within all programs, and also as before there wasnt any faulty setting anywhere.

so as this leaves me me still with some astonishment, it seems to be working as expected/intended for now (*knock on wood*).

thanks to TonyB and everybody who tried to help.
have to consider this as solved without knowing why ...

@ MikeW... 'batch convert an entire folder' - that sounds great and (really) thanks for your kind idea! theres only one tiny little problem: files are sorted related to clients & projects and within per date and item. sounds weird maybe, but thats how it is - and i even wont count folders!!! B)

so as long as theres not direct filter, i fear i have to treat the files as needed... sad but true. but first have see what else is going on with AD before really digging into this.

@F_Kal... hopefully this will be the case.

CorelDraw's AI export doesn't include a PDF portion, that's why they will not import into AD. CD's EPS files do come in nicely, though.

... nearly regarded this thread already dead.

theres already a newer thread assigned to the cmyk-thing here, but there arent many with the same problem as it seems... so it maybe might not be better suited for the bugs-section at all? might be i am wrong to this.
i dont really know for now what could be wrong with this, and any feedback regarding the way affinity might or might not handle profiles other than the rest could be helpful - but there rarely arent any so far ...

but if theres any chance to get better feedback when posting several threads i may think over that again.

16-bit cymk tiff really might be worth a separate thread, as the reason why this isnt possible with AP would be quite interesting.

    FWIW? easy: huge archive!
... the issue here maybe seems to be one thing (but couldnt get it verified by now): the .ai's from corel might suffer from sort of correct (or any) .pdf-implementation. have to investigate further on this, because its also the case with .ai's exported from corel up to x7.

thanks for feedback. appreciate this. (at least its not only me :) )

FWIW, I had a bunch of old .ai files in a folder, and tried to open them in AD. Only got a black page. Upon inspecting the file contents in an editor, I found that all were exported from Corel Draw 10, which I believe was the last version Illustrator also opened. Also slightly predates Illustrator outputing .pdf.

I got here because I'm keeping an eye on all color management topics in the forum. The technical issues raised by @dasigna are valid, and me among others would love some feedback by the Affinity team; the thread has trailed off however and I doubt anybody would be interested in reading through all that (my comment has sadly added to the bulk)

@dasigna, I suggest that for everybody's benefit you report the CMYK rendering issues you are facing in the bugs section of the forum; same for the problem with the corel ai files - a separate thread for each problem would be the best way to address these since they are not related - I'm sure the team would be interested to know that there are things broken (plus that you get the satisfaction that you are working with the team)!

Also, [here]'s a thread in the feature requests section that discusses why 16-bit CMYK was not implemented  - You may wish to reopen the discussion (hmm, I'm not sure if reopening it or creating a new feature request is the better approach  - somebody more experienced may wish to comment on that) and add your voice to why it's useful having it.

And of course, I'd make a new thread in the Features Requests section for every feature that I wish to see implemented (eg. "soft-rip and printing without profile") !

    Hope this helps!

    @nezumi - hmmm.
is 'fanboy' more childish rhetoric than 'drama-queen'? sorry if i hit you with that. i didnt meant to. sorry.
i apologize and thank you sincerely for your kind advice you've given.
i dont know who you are - you dont know who am i, but one thing seems to be quite sure - you still have to learn something: reading (carefully), understanding and of course reading between the lines. that might help you further on.
anyway. im not here to discuss or fight in such an unobjective manner. you started it, now you want to finish it. thats o.k. lets put that silliness to a rest. agreed.
and if we can do one another one more favour (or lets call it gentlemen agreement) - lets stay out of each others posts. alright?

live long and prosper. thanks again for your invest and kind regards.

o.k. thanks for feedback so far.

after researching some days within forums etc. theres some more light - but only some ...

trial: thats kind of 'dont know what to say' :)
was obviously already announced weeks ago and still not there... hmmm. how should i know if cant try???

corel-file support: its getting quite hard to migrate when theres no real option!! going the way over AI and the import to affinity is likely to get things even more worse by jumping around between different file-formats. not to mention the amount of work and time ...
    so thats really bad news!
same for .dxf-support (which is used often here for laser-cutting and -markers)!

further i discovered, that there will be issues regarding support of summa cutters, as theres no real and easy implementation so far - wich is another downpoint by now. have to investigate more on that ...

and: i am missing a real clear plan regarding future payments or plans for complete bundles with designer/photo and upcomming publisher.
so far cant believe it will be free forever if paid once ... ?

so at this point i am not quite sure if one could really dismiss CD, AI and PS? seems not possible as a complete changeover at the moment.
mostly for photo, but there theres obviously no seamless integration so far with the last standalone of adobe - lightroom (which i definitely dont want to change by now).
so at the end theres some open points concerning a complete 'goodbye' to corel and adobe.
would be really great if that would change in the near future!

at the moment affinity seems to be a real good alternative for those who are starting from scratch or havent much archives or a build up workflow with many things to consider.
but i fear affinity wont get all the others who are having such and have to rely on a stable and existing working process. and i assume there are lots of 'one-man-shows' and small-business-offices out there that would be really glad to kick off the 'big ones' more sooner than later and could get rid of their user-unfriendly (and most likely arrogant) behaviour.
as it seems theres no easy seamless 'jump-over' possible for now - or at least one thats possibly a less painful one.

so i think serif has a bit of more work to do before they could take over all of those dissappointed adobe and corel-users that are willing to leave but cant without much pain, due to lack of integration possibilities ...

still will have a permanent eye on this, and the sooner complaints will be wiped out, the better! B)

    EDIT:
ahhh - forgot one thing... photo seems not to be able of handling smart-objects from PS. bad again, cause used a lot too. and thats quite a big point regarding the use of mockups etc ...
