  1. Please find attached a short video I just recorded (it's a re-producable problem, I recorded it when it happened the third time and I was sure that it wasn't me doing something stupid). As you might notice, when I open the file the preview thumbnails are empty, even though the pages are filled with text, but that doesn't bother me. Then this happens: I copy some text (including two pinned logos and an image) from one of the pages, then create a new page at the end of the document and start a new section on this page. When I try inserting the copied text, ALL TEXT IN THE DOCUMENT DISAPPEARS and my pasted text pops up on the first page of the document (not on the new page in the new section). I make a living of this kind of work and need reliable, functional tools. Would love to help, figuring out what goes wrong here, but as I need to finish this job AND don't get paid for experimenting with Publisher, I'll abandon it for now and revisit it in six months or so. Sorry, but this kind of behaviour is not acceptable. Love Designer and Photo, LOVE the idea of Publisher but simply cannot risk using it until it runs stable enough to do a simple copy-paste job. REALLY angry, as I have to re-do all the work in InDesign now. Happy bank holiday everyone! not_ready.mov
  2. 1) Create new file with three paragraphs of text 2) import graphic and pin it to first paragraph, choose some settings (e.g. left aligned) 3) Import another graphic, pin it into the second paragraph, change setting (e.g. RIGHT aligned) 4) Select and copy the pinned graphic from first paragraph to clipboard and … 5) … paste it into a third paragraph of text RESULT: The copied graphic will adopt the last used pinning settings (in our example aligned to the RIGHT from the second graphic) and not the settings from the originally copied graphic (aligned LEFT) EXPECTED RESULT: When copying and pasting an object, I would expect all settings, including pinning position, to be copied with it
  3. Enjoy your drink ... I have currently a couple of files in which I run in these issues and am happy to join you.
  4. Have you tried clearing the user data (CTRL key when starting the software, select all, then clear / reset, see screenshot) to give it a fresh start? There might be some things hanging around from a previous beta or installation that give the software a hiccup.
  5. I'm pretty confident that pdf passthrough will come as soon as Serif can make it happen. Your word in the developers ears ... if it did work similar to Quark (click on PDF, convert to native IF YOU WANT, otherwise just pass it through like an image) I'd be over the moon ...
  6. Back in the good old days, when the developers shared roadmaps, they mentioned that MailMerge is coming ... until then, you might want to use some other software. https://www.belightsoft.com/products/labelsaddresses/
  7. Hi Old Brice, I wouldn't expect the OVERRIDES to update, but all other properties (override in my case: colour | adjustment that I expect to update everywhere: background indent measurement/size).
  8. Here's a quick step-by-step on how to reproduce the problem: 1) Create new file, type three paragraphs of text 2) Create new paragraph style with a "Fill" decoration, set some parameters (e.g. 1mm indent in all directions, 20% black fill), apply to all three paragraphs 3) Select ONE of the paragraphs and make some manual changes to the decoration using the paragraph settings (e.g. background fill colour) 4) When you now change the decoration properties for the STYLE (e.g. increase indent to 2mm), the changes work for the unedited paragraphs, but are not applied to the manually adjusted paragraph (even though the manual adjustments are different from what you try changing in the style). paragraph_styles.afpub
  10. Hi Jon, thanks for testing. I use a font manager called "RightFont" (supports auto-activation for Affinity Photo and Designer, so the font might have been activated rather than installed from a different project) -- that's a good hint, I'll try installing the fonts 'normally' and will let you know what happens. Update: You were on the right track Jon, the problem was / is my font manager: When I install the fonts manually using FontBook, the export works like a charm and all fonts are embedded as they are supposed to be. When I activate the very same fonts using "Right Font" (version 5.5, according to www.rightfontapp.com compatible with the whole Affinity Suite), the fonts are converted to curves on export.
  11. Thanks Jon, files coming this evening. Edit: Files are uploaded (8pm), cannot wait to see what you find out. Thanks for investigating this!
  12. Any progress on the various issues resulting in MASSIVE PDF files and fonts being converted to curves?
  13. @Copper Star Media Yes, that's all done manually -- as everything is on one page, it's easy to see if the numbers and days connect. For a day planner or something similar, I would probably try to find a smart way of misusing page and chapter numbers, make twelve files for the month and put the file name inthe document ... or have an intern do it and fire him the second I spot the first mistake (grin). But seriously: If you look at it calendars frim an amount of text point of view, it's just about getting 365 numbers right, no impossible task.
  14. @thomaso Praxis LT Pro is an OTF font from Monotype (files were created in 2008, I purchased the font in 2015). I find it curious, that the export worked properly in some of the early betas (see one of the testfiles I uploaded from December 2018).
  15. Are you planning on adding pass through? As mentioned by several people many times it is an essential feature for most publications with ads and elements prepared by other designers. No support would transport Affinity users back into the dark ages of graphic design with incompatible files, large TIFs and illegal font exchange to make things work ...
  16. Fonts unfortunately still ARE the issue, and especially converting them to curves increases the file size significantly for me (my projects tend to have a lot of text). The problem I am reporting here is that even if I specifically select to embed fonts, the text is converted to curves anyway. I have resolved to printing and then saving as PDF for this project but cannot use AP for anything until this is fixed. I need high-res print files with crop marks and low res web files without, embedded fonts and reasonable file sizes for both and don't have time or patience (nor have my customers) to fiddle around with workarounds, experiments or helper tools.
  17. Not sure if this is related, but in my case (see link below) Affinity Publisher converts all text to curves, which unfortunately makes the software unusable for me (for both print and web use). The PDF export really needs some fixing ...
  18. @thomaso The whole thing is a bit confusing, you are right. I`ll try to explain best I can: That's correct ... when I export with "embed fonts" the file is really big, when I export with "text as curves" the file is slightly smaller, but still way to big -- both variations have all text converted to curves though. That is correct too, the first large PDF contained curved text as well (which I did not realise at that time -- I selected "embed font" and didn't check, because I just assumed Publisher wuuld do just that); I did agree however that curved text would explain the file size. When I uploaded the two files MikeW discovered that the old file had correctly embedded fonts whereas the new one had all text converted to curves. I get a large file. It seems to be a font specific issue ... with the original font ("Praxis LT", purchased and installed via FontBook), the file is HUGE with curved text, with a different font ("Acumin Pro", activated through Adobe Fonts) the file is BIG with curved text and with Arial (systems standard font) the file size is normal (e.g. small) with embedded text. Same settings for all three exports.
  19. Answer found, but not a solution I played around with the two files I uploaded above and discovered that Publisher ALWAYS (independent of the PDF settings) creates curved text when using some particular fonts ... when I switch the entire publication to Arial, the file size (including embedded fonts!) shrinks down to 0,3 MB. So, the answer is, that Publisher apparently cannot embed all fonts (InDesign, Quark and all other DTP applications I have used throughout my career do) which, unfortunately makes it unusable for me -- it is an absolute dealbreaker not being able to provide my customers with files that come at a reasonable size for downloads / web publishing. What I don't understand is, that the early beta versions DID embed fonts (see old file 1-2019 above), so the feature must have been removed or deactivated somewhere between the first betas and release. Can someone from Serif explain, what happened, please?
  20. @Alchemist42 I can understand that a file with several full-page images needs some space, especially if you want to keep the text clear and legible, however, your file sizey seem unreasonably large. @Fixx Thanks for your test, seems to be the size difference I am looking at too.
  21. There is absolutely no way, that the smaller files originates from the release version, because: The smaller file (1-2019) was created in December 2018 with an early beta (see screenshot, file date my differ becaues I copied it from my archive to the desktop and renamed it before posting here); The large file (2-2019) has been created with the new customer beta just a couple of days ago.
  22. Thanks @MikeW -- thought, the smaller file was from InDesign, must have made it with the Publisher beta and forgotten about it. Here's a screenshot of my PDF settings ... as you see, I intended for all fonts to be embedded ... do you know why Publisher is turning the text into curves instead?
