Do you mean a 'thread' like in the below image?  If that's the case, this is for brush stabilisation and can be turned off in the brush context bar at the top (named 'Stabiliser').

Alternatively, if you mean you would like to be able to view brushes in the brushes panel just by their brush tip icons (nibs), it's not possible at the moment, but is something that has previously been requested in the 'Feature Suggestions' section (see below link):

marfbum reacted to R C-R in Pencil Effect Macro
This Sketch effect.afmacro is my attempt to convert the technique demonstrated in the Affinity Revolution Transform any Photo into a Pencil Drawing (Affinity Photo Tutorial) into a useful Affinity Photo macro. These are the steps I came up with:

Since the first step selects the top layer regardless of its name or type, for best results it should be the only layer in the document & a pixel layer. The macro does not alter this layer so if you don't like the effect you can delete the layers it creates. The two user adjustments adjust the radius of the Gaussian blur & the Black Level of the Levels Adjustment layer. They can be tweaked after the macro is applied in the usual way. Adding some saturation back to the HSL "_desaturate" layer creates a colored pencil effect.

A couple of 'before & after' examples of what you can expect:

    Hi simgonzalo

Make use of the 'Selection Brush Tool'[] to roughly highlight the Hair and leave the strands of hairs outside,as they will be selected using 'Refine'[] option on the toolbar. Now click the 'Refine' Button and use the brush selection to highlight strands of hairs outside to apply the edge refinement algorithm and switch to 'Black and White' overlay option in the 'preview' dropdown to see how much strands of hair are selected and repeat it to get the result you want. Here is a screenshot of the selection i was able to make using this. White Color Shows the selection you have made and black here indicates unselected areas.

I have also attached the editable affinity photo file[File Name = Perfect Hair Selection - Tip.afphoto ] with the selection saved as an Editable mask. Go ahead and open and experiment with this. I Hope this is helpful for you.

This is how the final selection mask looks like:

Weekend fun character painting. Hope someone likes it. Really quite amazed at the versatility of the old classic smudge as a real painting tool.

Only issue is that some of us , who are a little older, still prefer written documentation. Will that be forthcoming?

I have made 10 free tone mapping presets. I have not seen any tone mapping presets for affinity photo so I made some for anybody who might want them. Of course they will not all work with every photo like all presets but I hope someone finds them useful : ) To upload them just click on the zip. file, then in the tone mapping persona on the presets menu; click "Import Presets", Enjoy!
    Thanks!

If you transfer all of Serif DrawPlus X8 in Affinity Designer, this is the bomb!!! It will be a great program for all! Lord, do it!!!
In the version which is now AD program is good for drawing, but for text, it. Very few tools compared to Serif Draw. But, if you merged these two programs, it is the perfect product that will delight all designers!!! I assure you... Do it!
And gentlemen, you're ignoring Russian localization! Our audience is very large...

Wavy lines are quick and easy if you have the grid visible and 'Snap to grid' switched on. Spirals require more effort, and it would be nice to have a tool to create different kinds of spiral.
