  1. I have no expertise in QR codes, but have clients who can use them from time to time. The ones we have "outsourced" have all had the client's logo embedded into the center.  While a post in this thread suggested just dropping a logo somewhere on top of a code generated with these apps, I would like to vote for a mechanism to place a logo there that is compliant with whatever rules need to be followed (obviously, not blocking key parts of the code!). Really would be preferable to having to learn a bunch of QR rules when we only do these on a limited basis. If it were easier to accomplish (a benefit of this new feature), we certainly could be doing more.

  2. I've also seen this. Just checked the APub-beta autosave folder and, indeed, it does have a file in it! And I know for certain that I closed a test doc without saving before quitting last time. In hindsight, it has does the same with that test doc more than once. I have kept closing it without saving before quitting, but it still asks to open recovery at next start.

Yes, this definitely changed although I can't say when. The screenshot of the dialog in my Publisher manual has traffic light buttons in the upper-left corner and they are no longer present.

The 2.3 update included the following bug fix so maybe it changed then? If that wasn't it then I don't know when it happened.

    • Insert Hyperlink Dialog can be resized and hides Character Style dropdown

Yeah, I well remember when the resizing was added to the betas, then it had a few bugs to be worked out. But it seems in 2.4 somewhere the resize has disappeared! 😱

[Walt, didn't want to post in the general open forum since it seems to get far too many non-relevant answers. The beta group has always been much better for troubleshooting! 😉

  4. In digging into APub a bit further, looks like things are actually there, with the HUGE exception of the Studio layouts. When APub was open, it didn't have an open doc, a condition I rarely ever see, thus nothing shows up for fonts, styles, assets, etc.

Now I need to decide if it's safer to just spend a hour or so resetting up my various Studio layouts or daring to try the Copy from Release option. I don't want to mess up the working other apps, but really hate thinking about having to redo all the Studio layouts again. Any guesses on which is the better option?

Ever since they introduced the Studio layouts, it just never made any sense that these templates aren't stored and easily recoverable. As many of us know, getting the layouts just right takes time (and a very good memory!).

  5. Not sure if I was clear. I lost all preferences, settings, assets, font groups, Studio layouts, etc. Everything in the beta APub is back to a fresh install.

I tried restoring the Application Support for APUb beta and the pref file, but obviously there are other settings and preferences stored somewhere because restoring the above mentioned didn't make any changes at all.

  6. Just updated to the new APub 2.4.2 beta a few minutes ago and it crashed on quit. Sadly, when reopening ot lost everything - no fonts, no assets, all Studio layouts gone, all prefs gone.

I have Time Machine backups and I tried restoring what I could remember, but still nothing. Could someone itemize the files that need to be restored to get me back to 2.4? I don't want to have to start from scratch and rebuild everything, just don't have the time.

  7. Has happened several times in the latest beta 1903. Have a PNG with an FX on a page (only item in doc), then click the Replace Image button, select a new PNG and CTD when I click on the new PNG. Has happened multiple times. Document, linked image and Crash Report attached.

Related? From release notes from todays beta:

IMPORTANT KNOWN ISSUE in 2.2.0.1903: Sorry, but Documents created in previous 2.2.0.1881 betas will crash Windows Photo Persona, but will load into the next 2.2.0 beta to be released soon

I saw that and wondered the same thing, although it refers to Windows and I'm Mac. But nonetheless, it is hopeful a fix is coming!

  9. @Gabe As per my posts above, in some cases I didn't even select anything, but simply clicked the Photo SL icon. In other cases, I had 3 other docs open and when I clicked the Photo link in one of the other docs, CTD. It only crashed when the doc I uploaded was open, either alone or along with the others, thus the suspicion that the uploaded doc had an issue.

If I have the other 3 docs open, I can click the Photo icon without issue. But if the uploaded doc is open along with the others, or on its own, I don't need to select anything and it will crash if I click on the Photo icon. I just tried it right now, no other docs open, and it crashes by clicking on the icon.

Just tried it again. Closed the other 3 docs, left the uploaded one open, quit APub, then restarted. Once opened (with only the uploaded doc open), I simply clicked the Photo icon and CTD.

  10. Aha! Found one that causes it to crash. Fairly simple doc (Errol editorial), but may be related to the prior issues with freezes/crashes with linked APh and ADes files. Can package and upload with a link if desired.

And with that same one, once again crash. Interesting because it contains nearly the same assets/items as the other docs I'm working on, just rearranged for a different use.

UPDATE: Yup, it is that one doc that CTD every time. As I said, can upload a package if desired. Odd since it has nearly identical content to a couple of the other ones open. And also  of interest, it wasn't a layer/item in that problem doc that I had selected when I got the crashes. I was in another doc when I got the crashes, whether I had an item selected or not. The "catch" was that the now identified doc was also open in another tab.
