Hiswe got a reaction from nodeus in unintuitive/unhandy things
So after some time using Affinity Designer, I can now say that I'm very happy to use it.
It's really a good piece of work :)
Nevertheless I would like to share some things that I find very unhandy (or I may not have understand how it works)
Shortcuts (It's on the roadmap so…) Appearance is not kept from your last selection or last style applied.
– Ok you can make with edit -> default -> synchronise with selection.
– > So it'll be kind of ok with shortcuts :P This my one of my major problems with AD I think: pencil tool is hard to use.
– can't close a path while drawing
– can't modify it after, unless you use the pen tool.
-> Without this I couldn't achieve some hand-drawing-style vector shapes
(the attached image was made in AI… And I'll love to make the same with AD) Don't have unlock all/unhide all commands Other things of course, but I think it will be solved with adding shortcuts for everything ^^ Just to finish, things I Iove:
Pen tool is good, very good. So handy to make curves with alt shortcut. And it works so intuitively! Round corner tool… same same: easy and usefull! Pixels tools! At last we have a software that combine vector & pixel in a very smooth way! As far as I can remember pixels in illustrator has always been (is still) a pain in the ass. And vector in toshop… :S It's fast. Really. Fast. Those points above will keep me using AD for illustration for a while :) I'll keep waiting for a better pencil tool :)
And again, keep doing you're amazing job! Before AD, I couldn't have think about leaving adobe softwares ^^

Hiswe reacted to tooolbox in Is there a "Live mirror" option?
Sure. It's something that I discovered while I was messing around, trying to set up an iOS icon template. I'm not sure if it's documented anywhere, or even intended behavior--perhaps MattP can weigh in.
1. Save your document.
2. Equip the Place Image Tool.
3. When the file dialog pops up, select the file that you're currently working on.
4. Place a box anywhere. You now have an embedded document. It's populated with the contents of your current document.
5. Double-click the embedded document to edit it. You can clear out what's in there and put whatever you like. It doesn't seem to be linked to anything.
6. Back in your main document, copy and paste your embedded document layer.
7. Layer > Transform > Flip Horizontal.
What it looks like is that changing the embedded document adjusts your main document in realtime--but only the layer that you started editing from. You can update any other layers by zooming in or out a little bit.
Again, this may not particularly be intended behavior. Perhaps I broke something, but it's sure useful for setting up an icon template like this.
I'm on AD 1.1.2 from the App Store.
Edit: Oh, I realize that I'm posting in the Beta section--whoops. I'm not using the Beta, sorry!

Hiswe got a reaction from Chris B in Contemplating (AP illustration)
I tried to do a more textured drawing. Not sure I will dig more into this way but making my own brush was cool ^^
Still a little bit disappointed by AP instability :S But I'm sure that'll be fixed in further version :)
And Happy new year to everyone! And thanks again Serif's folks :)

Hiswe got a reaction from takao in Balançoire
I'v tried to do a more “realistic” drawing in AD.
So it ended with some very different rendering on the same draw %)
I'll try to continue those kind of tests ^^

I would like to, but I've never done that XD
And If make one, I would like to make a more textual tutorial. I personally don't like video one ^^

Hiswe got a reaction from MEB in Balançoire
@paolo.limoncelli no reference for this one. Just one photo of waitress for the top reference.
And after it was sketching on my tablet, then drawing on AD.
@peter don't look too close on the feet ^^

Hiswe got a reaction from Pablo Petzen in Kawaii metal covers
A small project I do for fun: take some metal artwork and try to render them in a cute way.
This is the first one: Spiritual Black Dimensions from Dimmu Borgir band (original here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiritual_Black_Dimensions)
