I struggled with this too..... when I selected text the options I got for kerning were 0% or auto, everything else greyed out..... after a bit of searching it seems you can only do between two letters (which makes sense).
Place the cursor between the two letters you want to draw closer or move apart, rather than select a word, and the kerning option then magically lets you choose or type in a figure.
If it doesn't work for you you'll need to give the mods/members a bit more info.

Great service, thanks (should sell it to Affinity!).

That's no good, it should auto select. It turns out that I made a little boo boo, I deleted the lens mount info and shouldn't have. I've changed the data to
    <maker>LEICA CAMERA AG</maker>
    <model>D-Lux 7</model>
    <mount>panasonicDMCLX100</mount>
    and now it's happy

I do believe that's similar to the Panasonic LX100, did you try the lens correction as per the image below?
You won't find that lens listed as it's not interchangeable

  6. Thanks

You can try  this xml file which I've modified from the panasonic version, thus:
    <maker>Leica</maker>
    <model>D-Lux 7</model>
If the sun's out then this will work and auto select the camera, if it's not then you may have to change the model into whatever the metadata shows, use any text editor. Good luck, it's a smashing camera

Adobe = 37 years  Huge stocks and shares and multinational links.
Affinity = 6 years  An office smewhere in Engand
Adobe partnered with the big players of the day, Aldus steve Jobs, and others to become huge multi billion euro business.
Affinity = Congratulations to them for offering almost the same technology and functions at a great price to those who can not afford hundreds of euros and many specs that loads of do not ever need anyway.  I still have the complete adobe CS3 on my mac, but find myself using Affinity more and more on windows.   I can do the same photography and the same publishing work on affinity as I do on Adobe CS3, When I was a student I wished affinity was around then, even my student price for the adobe package was a steep one.  You can not compare the two companies, ever.  They fill different needs.

Not many people can afford a ferrari and neither can it go any faster than a fiat 500 on major roads.  My point being that if you give a project to a whizz kid on adobe and the same project to a whizz kid on Affinity, they could both Achieve EXACTLY the same product in EXACTLY the same quality albeit the adobe guy might finnish FIRST, but who cares when both the ferrari and the fiat 500 can take you to EXACTLY the same destination.🙂

FWIW, I had similar problems with one of the older 'pancake' style Apple routers. As best as we can tell the cause was high voltage spikes that entered the device via the ethernet cable connection from the cable modem, probably during the intense thunderstorms we often get in Texas. (Both the cable modem & Apple router were plugged into a commercial grade power line filter & surge suppressor so it is unlikely any spikes were getting into the equipment that way.) That eventually resulted in failure of the input port on the router.
Lesson learned, shortly after getting the TC, I purchased a high grade inline surge suppressor designed specifically for ethernet connections & inserted it between the cable modem & TC, making sure its ground wire was connected securely to a good earth ground. I also added a second grounding block to the coax cable where it entered the house to supplement the one installed by the cable company at the entry point to my property.
I may be deluding myself but I believe all this extra protection is at least partially responsible for the complete lack of any connectivity issues traceable to the TC.
I mention this only because I doubt that many people think about ethernet cabling needing protection from voltage spikes. I certainly never did until the router's input port failed.

As the slow loading only happens with Safari, this may not have anything to do with it whatsoever.... but I feel compelled to mention it anyway. 😊
I have used Time Capsule (until the disc croaked) and after that Airports. Every couple of weeks my internet would slow to a crawl and I'd have to re-boot everything and that cured it for another couple of weeks. It was "normal" for a few years. My kids shouting "Dad, the internet's not working" was commonplace! Then Apple stopped support for Airport and I looked for an alternative. I read about Mesh systems and eventually bought a Deco M9 system (3 pods). That was nearly 2 years ago.
The difference is astonishing. It is far quicker, far more stable and I've only re-booted a couple of time since I had it (and that was probably the ISP modem issues). I love all things Apple but I don't think their routers cut the mustard after what I've seen with mesh. Might be worth looking into.

I used to use Etrecheck, but not so much since he started adding so many features to it. I liked the old version better.
I added the Develop menu item to Safari's menu bar years ago, before that was an option in preferences & it had to be done with a Terminal command or a utility like Onyx. But until you mentioned it, I had forgotten it included the "Empty caches" option. I will try that shortly & see if anything improves, so a big thank you for mentioning it. 😀

Perhaps ironically, it just stopped slimjet.com from allowing 3 trackers, 2 from Facebook & one from Google. For me, the big 'winner' is tvguide.com, which I use occasionally. Safari 14 blocked trackers on that site from fifty nine different data collection companies! That has to be a record.

Yes, clearing the data means putting all passwords again (although they're probably all in Keychain?).
And I am talking about Safari 14 which I only updated yesterday.
Do you Etrecheck? It's free and may possibly help. Or just empty the caches, which I've just learned how to do!
Go to preferences / advanced and click "show develop menu in menu bar" then close it. You may have to restart Safari but there will then be a Develop option in the top menu..... in that there's an "Empty Caches" option....

It works for me, totally. The mechanics are almost identical. I placed permanently the Character panel as top of my left panel group since I started using Affinity apps years ago, so both Font menus are just pixels away.

Dear all: I found a solution! Or so I think.
Just choose English—or any collection you may have created in Font Book—using that drop menu located at the Character panel, as shown in the graphic.
You can also see that there is a new collection on that menu: I added a Test Collection with a bunch of fonts in Font Book, and shows perfectly in that menu.
    Hope this helps!

    Just create your own
I find that designing in 500dpi works best for me when I design custom promotional products like lapel pins or challenge coins
have what you want to apply the effect to on one layer and have it selected (black art only). click on fx on the bottom of the layer box
slight outer shadow (play with it)
    click 3D (default should work)
Bevel/Emboss - Type-Inner, slide up the depth and Radius - soften just a hair
gradient effect (will vary depending on how you want the metal to show. blend mode usually shows as screen, type usually linear, but you may need to change to see what looks best) try to use a neutral gray/silver and you will have your silver metal.
color overlay - play with the color a bit to get your gold, brass, bronze, copper, black nickel, colors (i.e. gold will use something like a corn yellow-ish hue)... but play with it.

I designed mine perfectly in Photoshop to be almost photo realistic and I imported to Affinity Photo- still trying to get it to look like the way I had it, still working on it, but at least it's a start. once you apply the "fx", go to styles tab,  go to the tiny little menu on the upper right and select add styles category - name it something like Metal Styles or something. make sure the metal part/layer is selected, go to same little menu and click add style from selection. Then you can name it (Polished Silver metal... Polished Gold metal...etc.... antiqued Gold metal.... brushed silver metal...you get the idea).

Here's a couple of images of pins and challenge coins I did in the past to give you an idea

@Cecil - I think that was the problem - clicking "Edit with...." and choosing Affinity caused the error and wouldn't open (there's a screenshot but it's in the other thread about this)
@jmwellborn - Catalina still has some quirks to iron out - wish I hadn't "upgraded"! Having said that Sidecar is quite good. Embedding is fine until you get a huge library and then you really do have "wasted space" problems! I used to bring into the library in Aperture but changed to linking to save space.... was just careful not to keep switching stuff around.
@Sally Simple - I thought about using Photos as a management tool but to be honest it's just trying to be too clever for its own good. Am waiting for Affinity to release a Digital Asset Management app! 😉
For now I use Graphic Converter (LemkeSoft) and add the exif / creation date at the beginning of each file name so they're easy to sort by date at least. Takes seconds (if that!). Great bit of software you may want to trial..... good luck!

@Geoff777   How neat!  That is exactly what I thought of doing, but only quailed at the notion of suggesting it because I haven’t a clue about Catalina.   Hopefully, @Sally Simple has plenty of storage on her hard drive so that this “temporary” folder of images won’t be a problem.  And would it be a good idea to embed the problem images, rather than link them?  That way, when they move someplace else later, there wouldn’t be a kerfuffle with trying to locate them?   🤔

Hi Sally, sounds like you're using Photos, the built-in photo app that comes with MacOs?
As an Aperture user for many years, I am extremely biased against Photos but will save my rant for elsewhere.😎
I just checked it (first time opened Photos for years) and thankfully it's not been dumbed down enough to lose the "export" feature.
I suggest the pictures that won't open directly in Affinity from Photos you export to a new folder on your desktop (or wherever suits) and then Place or Import directly into Affinity for editing.
You can then import the new, edited file into Photos if you really, really have to! 😋

Place a *.docx file in a text frame (from a Master Page) and then Shift click on the little triangle at the lower right side of the text frame, new pages with the size of the text frame will be created. Caveat; if you are using Facing Pages the text frames have to be linked on the Master Page.
