They are two separate applications, so yes version one will remain.

Otto Manuel got a reaction from Old Bruce in What do I have to do to make a locked layer act like a locked layer?
    Hi,
     re: Affinity Designer for Windows
This morning I was pixel painting in a multi layered project and repeatedly made the mistake of painting on a layer that was "locked".
I acknowledge that I must have mistakenly caused the wrong layer to become selected, although I didn't know when that happened and would have to undo a bunch of work to start again. This happened several times. It was enough to cause annoyance.
I know enough about Designer to regard the lock feature as untrustworthy, but today i was enjoying painting with the pixel brush and color choices so I wanted to trust that when I started painting in the intended layer that I remained in the intended layer.
Am I missing a preference or checkbox? I would like a locked layer to be locked and safe from unintended modification.
     Thank you!

Otto Manuel reacted to Old Bruce in Designer; is there any way to share a template that is somehow "write protected"?
That is exactly what happens with a .aftemplate file. Each time you open it you get a new document which has to be saved with a name of your own or the Untitled default name.
Make a document with everything you want, size colour space, margins, Master/Parent pages, Actual pages, Document palettes, text styles, even text and images. Then go to File > Export as Template... and save to wherever you would want to have your template files stored.

Otto Manuel got a reaction from Old Bruce in Designer: Custom Vector Brush stroke endpoint node locations?
Using the reverse engineer procedure I think I stumbled upon the idea that the extension of the Round Cap and Square Cap is 50% of the stroke width. For example if the stroke width is 100, the vector brush will extend 50 pixels beyond the end point node.

    Thank you to everybody.
I started making a few engraving brushes, and realized how easy it is to make a brush. I also realized that a very good way to understand the suitability of a brush in a specific circumstance is to have a familiarity with the source files.
I think I will pursue making more brushes that are designed to be contextual to the goals I have.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Thank you @Dan Cfor the follow up comments and questions.
I have ungrouped and re-grouped the groups which cleared the group color assignments and let me continue as I had hoped. Thank you!
Yes, I believe that at one point I had purposefully selected the group and assigned the colors. On other occasions I will use the group to conform a stroke size throughout the group layers. When I do this, a stroke color is assigned. It seems there are repercussions to using a group's stroke size, stroke color, and fill color that I only acknowledge later in a project.
One thing I have learned is that after the group has assignments to the parameters mentioned, I can still go to the individual curves and override the group assignment with specific choices, but the group parameter settings remain as evidence of the previous action even if they are no longer applicable to some of the nested layers.
I think the circumstance that I caused, and which inspired this question, is related to that sort of sequence of events.
    Thank you for the help.

    Thank you @v_kyr
I opened my svg in a text editor and found the tag
    <svg width="100%" height="100%" and changed it to the dimensions of the project. For example;
<svg width="7.5in" height="14in" and now I can import the svg in other apps and have it load as I had hoped.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Hard to tell without seeing (into) the code of one of those generated Affinity SVGs then. - Maybe it's due to Affinity's default viewBox related code generation setting ...

There is no scissors / knife tool yet to cut or delete objects partially. For specific object types (vector) you could use the Geometry / Divide option as a workaround to divide an object into two parts, one within, the other outside your document area, and delete the outer parts. This way you kind of "crop" the objects and get new nodes for the left items.

I came looking for info about making and using vector pattern fills in Affinity Designer, and was surprised to learn it is only a wished for feature.
    +1 for the feature request.
Using bitmap pattern fill in a vector illustration seems like it negates the benefits of vector illustration.
    Thank you!

    Hi @Otto Manuel,
Our sincerest apologies for the delayed responses here, we're working to clear a backlog of tickets that occurred during the release of 1.9.2 & 1.9.3 whilst working from home, so many thanks for your patience and understanding.
I can confirm that Hardware Acceleration was added to Windows around this time, and this may have been causing issues on your older system.
Should you still be experiencing these issues, or still have access to the older system, I recommend navigating within the Affinity App to Edit > Preferences > Performance and untick Hardware Acceleration at the bottom of this dialog.
Restart the app as prompted and then try editing your documents once again - does this reduce the 'freezing' behaviour you've been seeing please?

Otto Manuel reacted to R C-R in mm project dimensions: Can I set strokes by 0.01mm increments?
Just the preference setting @PixelPest mentioned. But note that just sets what is displayed in numeric fields, not the actual values used.
So for example, if you enter 0.15 mm into the stroke width dialog that is what it gets set to even if in the display it is rounded up to 0.2 mm.

Go Preferences->User Preferences->Decimal Places for Unit and adjust it for "mm".

Otto Manuel got a reaction from Turtle in Precise location setting of symmetry planes intersection?
    Hi @Callum
    Thanks for the info.
A feature that allowed me to precisely place the symmetry intersection would be helpful for some of the images I make.
For example; in this pattern layout, which utilizes two symbols, I wanted to coordinate the symmetrical patterns in the octagons and stars in way that made it desirable to have the shape's array laid out prior to drawing the line work. I wanted to create the illusion that the lines continued across the shapes' boundaries. To do this I utilized the default centering for the octagon to draw a pattern in it, and then placed the intersection at the center of the star by zooming in and estimating the location before drawing a pattern that complimented that visible in the octagon.
Subsequent edits are less than likely to maintain alignment, because moving the point of intersection is not precise, so it undermines the ability to exploit the power of symbol synchronization as it applies to editing and updating after the initial placement. It makes it very difficult to work in an experiment, observe, and respond manner.
In any event, I don't want to seem to complain, but rather hope that this may demonstrate why an option for precise placement could be helpful to some users.

Thank you for your helpful info!

Otto Manuel got a reaction from Turtle in Precise location setting of symmetry planes intersection?
    Hi,
Is there a technique for precisely locating the point of intersection of symmetry planes?
I have been using the symmetry function at the default center of the project, but now would like to try moving the point of intersection elsewhere. I would love to be able to type in an exact location in a manner similar to using the transform move functions. Perhaps there is a way to use snapping? My impression is that it just slides smoothly across the project and there is no practical way to know where you have dragged it to, but I am hoping to learn that I just need to learn how to to place it precisely.
If you have any suggestions please share.
     Thank you!

The transparency tool, looks like a wine glass on the Designer tools, has several modes: linear, radial, elliptical etc.
You choose these on the context toolbar.
Once applied you will get two handles and a slider on the object to which you applied the transparency, that will allow adjustment.

Styles will let you save the vignette so that you can reuse it easily in the future.

Here's one way to do it...
Draw a rectangle. Fill it black. Add an elliptical transparency. Optionally move the slider to bias the transparency to the edges. Save this as a Style in the Styles panel (and call it Vignette). To use it...
Zoom out and drag a rectangle over your entire project. Apply the vignette style. Tweak with the transparency handles, blend mode, fill colour etc.
For example, setting the fill to white will fade the project to a white page. Optionally lock this layer so that you can continue to work through it, to the document below.
