as soon as you have a quad core CPU you have a solid build
SSD and 8GB RAM is totally reasonable
here are some performance comparison numbers for you to take a look at yourself
cheers
PS:
"My question is - what would an i7 processor enable him to do that an i5 would not in Affinity Photo ?"
nothing - even a dual core would enable him to do the same things, just not as quickly
-
yeah like requested some time ago

Hi Daniel,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
There will be an iOS Mirror app soon but there's isn't much details about it yet. MattP (one of the developers) shared a few details here in this thread (page 4).
I'm not aware of a similar app for Android devices at this point.
it won't happen in the timeframe of 1.6, I'm sorry to say :( --MattP
...which is the most recent update regarding this topic

what is beyond ...?
you know vector vs raster?
https://designshack.net/articles/layouts/vector-vs-raster-what-do-i-use/
embedded documents
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLqPhlRrvTM&t=14s
perspective filter

I am very sure you will get your head wrapped around this in some time :)
cheers

If the clients images are vector, then AD will give you an advantage because it can export embedded vector documents as vector
but given that the rest of the mockup and your clients image probably as well is raster and not vector anyway, photo is the right choice
you want to use a live perspective filter on an embedded document or on a normal layer and this filter is only avlailabe in affinity photo
cheers

this is a long known issue like crash using perspective distort live filter or hide left side panels ...iPad takes precedence at the moment
-
yeah this was also my conclusion after some testing
thanks

here is some data
based on which I'd say about 500 000 Mac users, maybe some more.

Status: Beta Release
Purpose: New features, fixes
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
Mac App Store: Not Submitted
Download: Here
This is the first beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.
To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.
Fixes/Improvements:
- First and foremost, the 1.6 version is mainly about: Light UI! (go to Preferences->User Interface)
- Improved view pan/zoom performance and new pixel-differencing pixel shader
- Improved performance with large documents
- New font chooser dropdown with recents, used fonts and favourites
- New Glyph browser
- Stroke stabiliser for all pencil and brush tools
- Align to key items (first/last selected)
- Text frame vertical alignment options
- Fit frame to text (double-click on bottom centre handle).
- Transform panel uses the rotation centre
- Scale/shear can now be performed about rotation centre
- Double-click now resets shape handles and rotate/shear handles
- Many PDF export improvements including vector export of multi-stop gradients
- Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements

And the question is, Andy, don't you use Metal on the iPad?
That's the main reason Apple created Metal: to avoid data copying between the CPU and the GPU...
And if you do use it on the iPad, why not use it on the Mac too?
already using metal

using this macro
on the banner image sample produces no modified output ... the merged pixel layer is unmodified and does not contain the adjustments underneath
(works on mac)
could you please make the bang photography sample available on iPad as well? thanks
cheers

Ah full screen!
Glad you're liking the changes we've been working on :-)
I'd argue a certain performance boost compared to the last beta is noticeable, the last one was not so much better than openGL for me but the recent one might be the one...quite good
(vignette filter rendering is still broken though)
just did a retouch on your new iPad beta as well and it worked without a crash

EDIT: I have updated the beta to version 1.6 Beta 2.1 - it's exactly the same as the last build apart from some fixes for High Sierra and Metal. If you weren't using High Sierra or Metal, there is no difference, so don't feel compelled to download it again!...
Status: Beta Release
Purpose: New features, fixes
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer
Mac App Store: Not Submitted
Download: Here
This beta version represents a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. Fixes/Improvements:
- Light UI improvements
- Metal accelerated view (available in Sierra or High Sierra - defaulted 'on' for High Sierra) and hardware grid *
- Artboards are created pixel-aligned
- Images are pasted pixel-aligned
- Items are copied to the same relative position between artboards
- Fixed guide/margin visibility
- Fixed Select-all (pixels) on artboard documents
- Numerous bug fixes and other improvements
* please note that macOS Sierra has a bug in Metal with AMD graphics cards which means colour correction will not function perfectly, hence why it is disabled by default. If you have an Intel or Nvidia card then feel free to try it. This bug was fixed in High Sierra so all cards should work as expected :)
Metal
Does this mean 10bit support für mac could be made possible? (Using 30fps maybe?)
Cheers

On that last point - I've just rewritten the raster crop tool (coming soon).
The new one will have an option for how the cropping is handled: non-destructive, resampled, or resampled and clipped to spread. The latter two will resample all raster content to the new document DPI/PPI, and the last will remove all pixels outside the spread after cropping. I've also added a new crop mode for changing the document PPI.
It will also have a bunch of presets for common sizes (paper, screen, etc).
and inpainting missing areas like in panorama mode?

Hello,
I would like to know if the 6 cores of the new i7 7800x processor will be used effectively by AP
Elsewhere on this forum, I received the information that to make AP run faster, it was the most important number of hearts. Therefore this new processor should be more powerful than the i7 7700K but as it is new (not yet released) will it be actually more efficient with AP?
In fact, the question could be:
A new processor with more cores, will it be used 100% by AP?
Or should Serif's engineers adapt AP to this new hardware?
Best regards
Pk
multiple cores are utilized pretty well, e.g. the AMD Ryzen is one of the fastest
