Welcome to the Liars Club everyone.
Canva is a DIY replacement tool. You’ve just added your entire User Base to the replacement pool.
All this time, big talk about professionals, standards, quality, NEVER a subscription model and more, turns out after all to be nothing more than any other Sellout.
‘Even when forced to purchase V2… and we all did, it was the product believed in “by professionals, for professionals” without being greedy like Adobe having subscription.
And here we are. Canva has nothing your current Users need… as everything Canva can do, WE your Users (you know, the ones that kept you in business) already can do with current Affinity products.
‘All of the touting and Marketing, and support in MINDSET more than anything… of denying the Adobe Subscription greed train, is finally revealed.
The only thing mildly good hearing this news, is you didn’t layoff your current Dev Staff… but that’s only because Canva HAS NONE to keep it functioning.
‘Guaranteed… as soon as the Subscription comes, and it WILL (we all know it), even your/they will be obsolete… so kudos.
Makes perfect sense now as to why fixing or updating your iPad V2 hasn’t happened in several months to a year even though reported numerous times.
All I know is, I purchased BOTH V1 and V2 of all three Affinity apps for iPad… not even the Universal License as some (which YOU recommended)… and expect to be able to use them in perpetuity as you claimed in writing. Else the term Class Action happens, which is typical where PROFESSIONALS are concerned.
    Enjoy your money Sellouts.

What does the mysterious brush option “Protect Alpha” do in Affinity Designer and Photo? Why would we use it? Today we’ll look at this feature (also knows as “Lock Transparency” or “Alpha Lock”) and see some demos of how it can be used to make digital painting much easier.

Your channel deserves more than its current number of subs and views, Trent; and your video is more interesting than the Affinity Revolution equivalent. I don't use a Google account, but I added you to my RSS feeds a while back (it's old school, but so am I).

True, there are a variety of ways to do it. I wanted to give the viewer some background information on RGB and B&W theory to help them make their own decision.
BTW, Affinity Designer doesn't have Presets for adjustments layers the way Affinity Photo does. I'm not sure why that was never included.

StudioJason reacted to devendra in Photo, Designer, and Publisher consistently Crashing
Oh and I would like to add:
it has nothing to do with my files. I had crashes after opening AP and AD (haven't used publisher in a while so maybe it would appear there, too) when all work files were closed. Same for the brushes lag. It appears in documents of any size and amount of layers, tried new blank documents and had the same. It randomly appears and works a while after a crash/restart until the next lag.

StudioJason reacted to devendra in Photo, Designer, and Publisher consistently Crashing
I can't offer a workflow description for every case as it randomly happens but I have the same problem as the OP.
Working on an iPad Pro v3 and iOS 17.1.2., AP is up-to-date with 2.3.1.2217
Happens with AD and AP and I can't figure out a pattern/trigger as the situations vary.
    It happens while
brushing on a layer (randomly after I had already painted for some while) switching layers using the color slider and pipette typing values in a panel switching tools opening a document From 256 GB I have 128 GB free and I only use the iPad in addition to the macbook for drawing and don't use any large other apps, it's mainly Affinity installed.
This might be worth an extra thread but as it fits to that and often is the prelude to a crash:
Brushes start lagging out of no reason. I am using everything as intended for some while and then out of a sudden I paint "empty" on a layer, nothing visible. So I zoom in and out (with lags as well), all tools stop working/freeze, the layer becomes visible and I can finally see what I painted, then I try to paint again and the document crashes.
The lagging of the brush does not always lead to a crash but very often. It costs me so much time and is beginning to become a problem for my work-schedule and respectively also the money.
While the brush lag is a real problem itself it is most likely connected to the crashing issues the software has on the iPad.
I would so love to keep drawing on the iPad instead of my wacom tablet as it is more intuitive for illustrators in theory. But practically I had to create so many workarounds to be able to make basic drawing at all. For example I have to exclude every larger group in my file to a new linked document so I am able to use the main document on the iPad at all and be able to paint "live" on a layer. Also I must not refresh the links on AP on iPad because it causes embedding instead of keeping my intended link - which bloats my document again. Took me hours of try and error to find that out.
To say it shortly: Please work on the general performance on the iPad. I have no time to send you example videos as I am struggling with getting my work finished (and also the crashes and bugs happen randomly I would have to record quite some time and invest a lot of work just to make a report that probably has nothing to do with my pretty standard usage of the program) but I think the hints you get from different users are reason and explanation enough to thoroughly check the general performance.
    Thank you!

StudioJason got a reaction from Affinity Rat in Photo, Designer, and Publisher consistently Crashing
Have been using iPad Pro v.3 256G (with still approx. 100G free)… utilizing Photo, Designer, and Publisher for months without issue, and now is consistently crashing regardless of which being used.
Though it was at first simply overextending the Apps, graphics-wise or large file sizes- numerous Layers, Adjustments, complex procedures  or what have you…but now is simply when performing what is regular or normal Use or Editing type tasks.
Like making edits to Text used, or Adjustment Layers, or even after finishing working on something say in Publisher and using the Hand Tool to view the Document and such.
It was happening sporadically at first. Where I’d be doing more intensive work performance, and figured was just too much for it to handle- which is odd, because never had issues prior.
Installed the IOS 17.1 update that came out just the day before…and now is more consistently crashing. Have performed numerous Hard Resets, clearing memory cashes I know of, but still persists.
Figure that the update might have something to do with it increasing perhaps (?), but definitely needs some fixes beyond that because it was doing so prior to updating. But is now has become very problematic, even in doing simple tasks over duration.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble also @StudioJason.
It sounds as though you're able to open your document for editing, indicating it's a different issue from that being reported above and therefore should be contained to a separate thread.
I can see you've recently replied to your thread where @Lee D was assisting originally, Lee is on annual leave until Monday - however I will be sure to drop him a message to request that he replies to your thread to advise further, as soon as possible.
    I hope this helps.

Thank you. That's what I'd like the staff to answer, so we know 100%
Is it bugged? It is just designed nonsensically and poorly worded?
If that's the case then it seems like a bit of a waste of a reset button. It would make a lot more sense to be able to reset the brush after you've had a chance to use it and see how it behaves. Having to save duplicates every time you might want to restore something seems like a huge oversight.

Based on the 'Additional settings' text, I don't think it's working as intended or described.
    Additional settings:
Reset—returns all stroke settings to those of the saved brush preset. Duplicate—saves the current stroke settings to a new preset. Close—exits the dialog and applies stroke settings to the selected preset. To me, a 'saved preset' is a group of settings that you can easily return to with one click, whenever you want. It's sole purpose is to make it easy to return to that state and to always be available for efficiency. You wouldn't normally lose a 'saved preset' unless you intentionally force a save over it. If it automatically overwrites your preset every time you change something then it's not much of a 'saved' preset.
'Reset' should return you to your saved preset. That makes perfect sense if 'Close' didn't automatically save over your preset.
'Close' doesn't specify that it saves over your preset permanently, it's not logical* that it would save over your 'preset' because 'duplicate' is for creating custom presets.
*it makes sense for the duration of that session/project but not permanently.
'Duplicate' exists as an option so that we can save alternative defaults/presets for a brush. It doesn't make sense that if you don't choose 'duplicate' before you click 'close' (to test your new settings on paper), then it automatically overwrites your current saved preset.
None of these options are working logically unless I'm over-looking an option where I can restore a brush to it's true defaults.

There has been a long history of posts about it…even one reply by a Moderator back in 2020, about it still being in the works.
With Affinity Photo V2 out…you’d think it would have been a definitive inclusion for the iPad version, but obviously was not.
Having to rely on chance of finding…or paying… only to get close to what you want, and having to “fill the gaps” so to speak is really disheartening. Should have this as an option on the iPad, to Record your own Macros.

    Can confirm.
Have tried multiple ways AFTER the PDF is imported to combine Text, as it does separate Paragraphs into individual Text Frames…but to no avail.
Even Selecting entire Paragraphs and attempting to ‘Convert to Text Frame’ does not work.
Cannot be from any original PDF creation/assignments. Very troublesome.
‘Only thing in Preferences > General is Import PSD Text as Tex (not as Pixel Layers) which is completely different situation.
