Confirmed.

Thanks, I've passed this on to development, as for some reason it doesn't seem to be generating a crash dump either (on Windows).

I'm fairly certain it's the result of a bug we are aware of which can cause documents to become corrupt, were you duplicating master pages containing pinned images, or something along those lines?

No duplicated master pages, but I linked / pinned some text blocks together. Once I unlinked the page from the master page so I can edit it, it would crash when I moved the text too long I think. For this I moved the text and then saved before it could crash

my name jeff lol

We have made fixes/improvements to this area (Crash opening customers file) of the program in the latest customer beta. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below.

The latest beta builds are downloadable from links at the top of each of these beta forum posts.

These betas install parallel, next to the release version (they do not overwrite your release) and so the fixes can be tried in the beta without affecting your normal workflow in the release version.

Once these programs have been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.0 update/patch to all customers.
