Chris L
Hi Just downloaded the Publisher trial, installed it, opened one of the sample files. The app ran light treacle, literally couldn't do anything after changing a line width. Restarted the Mac and relaunched the app to be met with a message saying 'your trial has expired'. What happened to the 10 day trial? Running an iMac i7 from about 2011 with 4Gb RAM, High Sierra. About 280Gb drive space available. I would really love to have a go at this software but the experience hasn't been so great so far.
Staff Callum Posted August 14, 2019 Staff Share Posted August 14, 2019 Hi Chris L, Welcome to the forums The trial will expire early if the system clock is changed is this something you might have done? Unfortunately once the trial has expired it isn't possible for us to extend it. Thanks C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP. GarryP
Designer gives you a lot of the features that Publisher has. If you can’t re-install the Publisher trial you could try the Designer trial and see how you get on with that. It might help you to evaluate quite a lot of the features you may use in Publisher. Chris L
Thanks guys I noticed the clock on the Mac I installed on was not set to the correct time, so that may have had a bearing on it. I installed designer onto the same machine without any issues. Had a play with it last night and was very impressed, as a long time Adobe user. What's the min spec you need to run these apps decently? I have a 2012 Ultrabook with an i5 and 4GB of RAM and a 256Gb SSD. Will it do OK on this till I get a better machine? And what's the minimum decent spec to run them on? Do I need dedicated graphics, for example? And is IDML import on the near horizon yet? GarryP
It really depends on what you mean by “decently”. I’ve noticed, in passing, that some forum members use the Affinity Apps on what they themselves say are fairly low-spec’ machines and can’t remember seeing any complaints in that specific area. As long as your machine meets the minimum specs on the Affinity site: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/publisher/full-feature-list/ then you probably won’t have too many problems but, of course, more power/memory/speed/etc. will make for a nicer creative process. The Affinity Apps – at time of writing – generally use quite a lot of memory (and storage space) because of how they work, especially if you use lots of images, so if you find things slowing down then more memory would probably help more than anything else but that sort of thing is always a balancing act. Try hammering your trial copy of Designer by placing loads of random graphics on top of each other and in lots of artboards and adding lots of effects and see what happens when you move stuff around and rotate things and zoom in/out and editing some text. If you can’t ‘beat it into submission’ then you’ve probably got a good enough spec’ for what you need.
