KeithPhoto
Any update for the iPadOS for handling opening/saving file in iPad? I don’t like that I have to import the file into Affinity Photo first. With the USB access, Can affinity photo open the file to edit directly from USB drive? And of course saving to USB drive too.
Staff stokerg Posted June 6, 2019 Staff Share Posted June 6, 2019 Hi KeithPhoto, It's a bit too early to say what will and won't work when it comes to iPadOS (it was only announced a few days ago). We should know more about this as iPadOS is developed
Skippy
This talk from WWDC https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2019/710/ at 28:30 gives us hope as it demos editing a numbers file right from external storage.

littlefooch
iPadOS beta definitely can access files on external storage e.g. USB, SD etc. You can do this via Files App. Apps have to provide support for this capability. The question is when will Affinity Photo provide it's own beta to utilize external storage in iPadOS?

I can already access external storage in current Affinity Photo and current iOS. Just choose Open from Cloud and navigate to the external source via Files app. This ability already exists. I can access iXspand lightning to USB drive, wireless pro HDD, local network drives and a range of cloud services. Why mess around with building in access to different storage sources when access is already available via Files? Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Hi Dave, the issue is that although the files app in iPadOS13 can see and access external drives, when you use AP or AD that external drive isn’t visible in the Files browser built in to Affinity. I get that on IOS12 you can see some external drives and sure you will see them on 13, but looks like AP and AD needs a recompile with the latest operating system 13 libraries or whatever they call them now before these new writable external drive are visible. I'm still not game to update to the beta 13 but thanks Paul, now I understand the issue. I'd prefer they fix the bugs in Photo and Designer before getting too distracted by the new OS. JCorrado
I managed to find a simple work around. Since Import or open from iCloud does not show usb drives in 13.2 (beta) I was able to access my usb drives through File Browser Biz. Not regular File Browser. Regular doesn’t support usb. You have a spend a couple of dollars for it but once you network it you have access to all your usb and cloud storage. Haven’t tried to save to them yet though. One issue at a time. I'm curious, if you tap on a .afdesign or .afphoto file in Filebrowser business, does that file then open in Designer/Photo? Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
