How to run a spell check

Recommended Posts

Really daft question but how do I run a spell check - I selected 'Spelling/check spelling' and it only comes up with x1 incorrect work (unlikely given the size of the document). I expected to see a dialogue where I could click through all my incorrect spelling errors, (ignoring, learning etc)? I've tried the 'Spelling/spelling options' and this comes up with there same incorrect work but refuses to learn or ignore?

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Many thanks. Just read through it and looks like I'll have to add my 2 cents to the Suggestions then.

You are completely right with your recommendations on naming conventions - 'Show Spelling Options' makes no sense at all, it's a spell checker.

Does the 'Ignore' button work for you? If I run 'Show Spelling Options' it picks up an email that's used throughout the document, clicking ignore appears to do nothing. If I run 'Show Spelling Options' again it highlights the same email. I've added some intentional spelling errors to my document as a test and run 'Show Spelling Options' again and it just won't get past that darn email.

'Find Next', 'Ignore' or 'Learn' appear to do nothing. How do I search the rest of the document?

Seems OK for me with email addresses

I'm using English language in Apub, are you?

If yes, can you upload a simple APub document with a passage of text that shows the problems you are having

A maybe good example why spell checking text is mandatory or why a blind copy/paste sometimes can be dangerous ...

I'm getting some inconsistent results which may be due to some perceived "misspelled" words being on a Master Page (like the email address)

I'll need to spend a little time figuring out how APub deals with misspelled words on a Master Page so I've logged this thread to have another look when I have more time & coffee.

Hopefully a dev/support or someone else can figure it out for you before then

Ignore and Learn work for me (Windows), with the caveat that for text derived from a Master Page, the spellcheck must be run on the Master Page, by selecting the Text Frame there before choosing Text > Spelling > Check Spelling.

The checking works on your document page if I select the Text Frame specifically there.

Hi Walt

Text > Spelling > Check Spelling simply finds the next misspelled word which you can right click to Ignore it or Learn it

What happens if you use the main spell checker command Text > Spelling > Show Spelling Options on a new document that has a couple of spelling errors on a master page. Do the options Ignore or Learn work as expected for you there?

Sorry; I missed responding to this, Carl.

I have no idea how it worked when you posed this question, but now, in 1.7.1.404 or 1.7.2.458, yes, those options work as expected for text on a Master Page.
