Facing pages bleed in between

Recommended Posts

In order to layout photo books with images covering the left and right side simultaneously you always need facing pages. However when exporting for adhesive binding bleed is necessary not only for the outer area but also in between the two pages because they do not get printed as  double pages but as single pages which later get glued together. I tried but have not found the possibility to use facing pages with bleed also in the middle?

The inner egde bleed for facing pages is - different to the outer edge bleeds - not an additional area but an existing of the opposite page.

Facing pages with bleed assigned to their inner edge will show that bleed if you export as single pages, not spreads.

Think spiral binding. There is definitely a need for inner bleed which does not reach opposite page.

Hm. In spiral-bound media the pages have a distance to each other. That means for the final result their is no way to see an image on facing pages without a gap.

Also I'd rather say for spiral binding I wouldn't need an inner bleed at all but reserve a margin area on the documents page, to avoid to have any content appearing behind the spiral.

But you can also do it like this: Spiral_Coil_Booklet_Hero3-20180621_07121

Yes, good example. Though its difficulty is not with spiral binding only but other bindings, too.

Requires either exact cutting or, unfortunately, a separate layout document for single page printing, instead. See the enthusiastic comments about that 2007 workaround description ;)  http://blog.gilbertconsulting.com/2007/09/breaking-facing-pages-document-into.html

In Fixx's example, it is regular facing spreads without worry/need to separate the pages at the spine for the inner bleed. The page color is the same on both right & left pages and so there wouldn't be an issue with trimming. The inner content is help back by a decent inside margin. The outer bleed left room for cutting variance. The cover had full bleed and was trimmed.
