AFriend Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Using the “Place Image Tool” I pasted a jpeg of my brand logo in a document. The logo is the company name (NIUKA), with an image attached to the name (a small tea pot with steam coming out the spout). Right now the whole thing is black, and I need to change it to red and gold. The color of the name’s letters is to be red, while the tea pot needs to be gold. So I have a two part question: 1. How to separate the letters and image to make each a different color? 2. How to make each the color I need? When I use the simple process of selecting the jpeg with the move tool, and clicking on the color palate, it only outlines the image in color, rather than filling the entire image as that color. Also, it of course tears the entire image as one item, so I’m not clear how to designate different colors for each part of the logo. John Rostron 1 Quote
Dan C Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Hi AFriend, Welcome to the forums Are you using Affinity Designer or Photo please? 13 hours ago, AFriend said: 1. How to separate the letters and image to make each a different color? You can't 'separate' these as such, as this is a JPEG the image is rasterised and now only exists as a single object. You could cut and copy each letter to it's own layer, but it would still be a pixel and not vector object. 13 hours ago, AFriend said: 2. How to make each the color I need? This answer mostly depends on which Affinity Software you're using Quote

I'm afraid my proficiency of the terminology "selection" and "recolor" is not high, so I'm not sure exactly how to do that. Can you elaborate a bit for me? I would be very grateful. Quote
v_kyr Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I used APh on your above shown bitmap, removed the background (made that transparent), made a rectangular selection of the text portion and filled the pixels with red color, afterwards selected the tea pot and filled that. You can also trace the bitmap to vectors and work then with vectors instead in AD, in case you don't already have the font and tea pot of your logo as vectors either. niuka.afphoto (bitmap) niuka.afdesign (vector) Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Alas, I am decidedly not proficient enough in the language or the operating system to translate this into effective results. It also appears that I am using an older system, which does not support the files you put up there. Would it be possible to work out some sort of agreement to have you complete this task for me? I would be happy to hook you up with free tea or work out how to make it worth your while. Quote
v_kyr Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Those Affinity files should usually work, as they've been created with the actual release versions. Not sure where the difficulties are, if you could be more specific to the problems you encounter, we can try to help you, so you can hopefully get the things done. Hi There, sorry, I got busy with business but I need to figure this out. I tried opening those files but they are not supported by the version of AD I have (1.4.1) And I'm not able to find how to update the program. The font and image were hand made by a human artist. Basically I just need to alter this logo to my color specs, with a transparent background, and then send it to my partner so he can drop it into his Illustrator template. And here are more specific questions to your answers: - How do I "remove the background (how to make it transparent)" - How do I "make a rectangular selection of the text portion and filled the pixels with red color" (Right now when I select the logo in AD and the entire image is selected and I don't know how to create a rectangular selection over just a portion of it.) Even so, with the whole image selected, the "fill" does not fill the image, it only outlines it. (see attached screen shot) I greatly appreciate any further help you may give. Log in to the Mac App Store (MAS) using the same Apple ID as you used for the original purchase. When you go to the ‘Purchased’ tab in the MAS, you should find Affinity Designer listed together with an ‘Install’ link. AFriend Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 Thanks Alfred, I don't see it in my purchased apps. I've had it since 2015. Might have been afree demo version? Quote
