FrankWitsel Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Hi, I'm new to this Affinity forum and new in using Affinity Photo. I would like some help (tutorial would be great) with converting jpg logos to a png logo with a transparant background. I also need to create colored logos, into a single white logo with transparant background in png. Many thanks, Frank Quote
Dan C Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 Hi FrankWitsel, Welcome to the forums You'll need to open the JPEG image in Affinity and remove the areas you wish to be transparent, then go to File>Export and select PNG here. Using the PNG24 preset will ensure your transparency is retained when exporting. Without a sample image however we can only offer so much advice! FrankWitsel 1 Quote

Is there more than one colour in these logos, or are you just trying to convert (for example) a blue logo on a white background to a white logo on a transparent background? Hi sorry for my late reaction, I was traveling. Thanks by the way for all reactions. Yes they can be multiple colored, so I don't know if that makes it more difficult? I just want all colors in the logo to be white and it needs to be an transparant png as well. This is to show multiple logo's from different companies on one digital screen. All colors combined make it just look horrible. I've seen the White option many times and this is what we would like. Quote
John Rostron Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 I take it that the background against which these white/transparent pngs are to be shown is going to be dark. Otherwise you are not going to be able to see much. John Quote Windows 11, Affinity Photo 2.4.2 Designer 2.4.2 and Publisher 2.4.2 (mainly Photo). CPU: Intel Core i5 8500 @ 3.00GHz. whis4ey Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 How does one actually remove the area that I want to be transparent??? I am a total novice ... please do not assume that I know anything about what I am doing If I could make the white background transparent I could then export as a png Quote
firstdefence Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 A lot of this depends on the quality of the jpeg in the first place but as one might assume the better the jpeg quality the better the end result. I would upload what you would call a typical example of the jpeg you would be using. Which Affinity app are you using? Which Operating System are you on? Methods Use the erase tool to carefully erase the background, you can adjust the size and hardness of the eraser brush to erase large parts of the background and then reduce the brush size as you get nearer the subjects you want to keep. Only practice will get a good result so practice on a few images first. Use the Selection Brush Tool, very similar technique to the eraser method only instead of erasing you are making a selection of the things you want to erase. again practice makes perfect here so doodle away.
