Blemish removal tool not working

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I'm trying to do some very simple blemish removal on a portrait photo. I just have one layer (background) and am trying to use Blemish Removal tool but it will not work at all. Is there something I need to do to switch this on? Same issue with Healing Brush. Many thanks, Matthew

Hi Matthew,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

To use the Blemish Removal tool just click over the area you want to correct. You may have to adjust the width of the area that will be affected by the Blemish Tool in the context toolbar (depending on the size of your image).

You can also click (to define the area you want to correct) and drag the mouse to find a suitable sample area from which to blend with the target area. While you drag the mouse you can see a preview in realtime of the result in the area you want to correct (the area you first clicked).

To use the Healing Brush you must first define a source area pressing the ⌥ (option/alt) key and clicking on the image. Only then you can click and drag the mouse over the area you want to correct.

Take a look at the status bar at the bottom. It lists all modifier keys you can use within each tool.

You can find some video tutorials for Affinity Photo on Affinity Vimeo channel here. More will be added regularly.

Does it happen only with that particular file or with others as well?

Are you sure the layer is not locked?

If nothing else works you can try to reset the app, pressing ⌃(ctrl) while you click on the app icon in the Launchpad. Then press Select All and Clear from the dialog that will appear. Note that this will remove all customisations you may have made to the app, including custom brushes etc

Miguel - was not aware of your Vimeo channel, but have had a very quick look since seeing your link.  These are great and have bookmarked the site.  Thanks

Thanks everyone. I opened a second file and it worked fine. I noticed though that when I opened the second file the layer was selected and highlighted in blue on the layers panel. I went back to the first file and it wasn't selected like that by default. I clicked once, highlighted the layer in blue and all good. Many thanks.

Hi,

I can't get any of the tools to actually work in the menu that includes the tools: healing, inpainting, blemish ect. Nothing happens when I follow the tutorials, it says click and it just does it, I click and nothing happens whatsoever. Ive reinstalled the application ect and made sure nothing is wrong, but it still won't work.

Thanks

Hi seuk280,

Make sure you have the correct layer selected in the Layers panel. Some of those tools don't work in other layers types (adjustments, filter layers etc).

Also make sure the layer is identified as a Pixel layer (check the label between parenthesis after the layer's name). If it's identified as an Image layer, right-click on it and select Rasterise... in the Layers panel.
