Michael
When you export an SVG, whole document gets exported. An option to export only the image (shapes), without empty portions of background page would be very nice.
JDW
If I open an SVG in Illustrator CC and in Affinity Designer and then export the SVG from both apps (using the smallest file size settings in Illustrator), the Illustrator saved SVG is slightly smaller than the Affinity exported SVG. And that remains true even though I select "Export for Viewing" in Affinity. It would be nice to have file sizes the same or smaller than what Illustrator generates. I am specifically thinking about WEB use.
Staff MattP Posted January 14, 2015 Staff Share Posted January 14, 2015 The fact that the Illustrator-produced SVG is only slightly smaller is frankly astounding, because no effort has been made to reduce the file size of the exported SVG yet. When we start looking at file size then it sounds like we can hope for a good reduction.
JDW
Matt, please note that I usually can shrink Illustrator's SVGs down in size further by using this: http://petercollingridge.appspot.com/svg-editor/ Maybe that site will give you some ideas as to the fat which can be cut to maximize optimization. Staff MattP Posted January 14, 2015 Staff Share Posted January 14, 2015 Hi JDW, Thanks for the link - I'll take a look when we're looking into it. There are a number of very easy steps to reduce the file size dramatically - and at the moment we do none of them, so I can imagine certain files could exhibit huge savings. Thanks, Matt ronniemcbride
Rusty
Hi Guys, Though I would jump in here as it's about SVG's, hope you don't mind. Will you be looking at adding SVG output to the export Persona for layers? Thanks Rusty
Staff MEB Posted January 14, 2015 Staff Share Posted January 14, 2015 Yes. SVG, EPS and PDF will be available as output options for Export Persona. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Dave Harris
The current customer Beta no longer has "Export for Viewing". It has "Export for smallest size" instead. That does make some attempt to minimise the size. I just tried it and one file got: AppStore Editability: 695,170 AppStore Viewing: 639,966 Beta Editability: 631,760 Beta Smallest size: 572,631 so it can help. Rusty
Thanks MEB, I only see the option to save out layers in the export options as JPEG PNG TIFF or GIF using the Export Persona. Am I missing something?
Staff MEB Posted January 14, 2015 Staff Share Posted January 14, 2015 Sorry i wasn't very clear. When i said you already can create slices from layers for other formats i meant for raster formats. The vector formats are coming soon (SVG, EPS and PDF), will be integrated in the Export Persona and will work the same way. I've edited my previous post to make it more clear.
