Apologies if I read too much into your previous post, John. When you referred to the missing command being unable to re-create the original curves, I thought you were suggesting that the ‘Combine’ command loses more than just the fill and stroke attributes, and that therefore a ‘Break Apart’ command would be so severely hampered in its ability to undo the effects of the ‘Combine’ command that you wouldn’t even get the original shapes back.

RIGHT CLICK ON THE OBJECT  > GEOMETRY > DIVIDE

just select the curve you want to break apart and press the divide Boolean button. This will separate the curve into its component parts
