Hello,

I'm a photoshop user and I'm currently testing Affinity Photo, and I really like it... but there's one feature I can't find, which is "lock transparent pixels" (layer panel, in photoshop)

In Affinity, it seems that the only lock provided is for preventing moving layers around...

Is it hidden somewhere?

Thank you :)

There is a ‘Protect Alpha’ button on the context menu of the Paintbrush Tool  which stops you painting on transparent areas.

There is a Preserve alpha on many filters which stops the transparent areas affecting the result of the filter.

Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

oh thank you, both of you :)

now I hope they will add the same alpha option on other tools like clone stamp and so on...

and I can see on the other thread (thank Lee for the link) that I'm not the only one missing that old good Cmd+Del of photoshop ^^

You can't lock alpha of a particular layer, but you can lock alpha of all layers by disabling the editability of Composite Alpha in the Channels panel. Click the pencil icon at right-hand end of a composite channel to toggle the channel's editability.

hmmm... a bit odd, but interesting...

thank you for the help!

I keep forgetting this, as a long time PS user this one always frustrates me. It would be nice to have an overall protect transparency option.

Ditto. I went looking for this again today only to notice that I've been here before.

I don't think I'll ever quite get Affinity's logic behind their UI. Is it just because we're old dogs and these are new tricks? I don't think so. I can't think of a situation where I would want to lock transparency for one painting tool and not another. And I can't think of any real-world situation where modifying a painting tool would create this sort of magic. Locking transparency is more akin to applying a mask, and that's something which should happen in the layers panel.
