[AP] Strange edge artifacts when refining a mask and using Black Matte as a preview

Recommended Posts

Please check the images attached below. I've got a jacket that I have to cut out of the white background. So I do a quick magic wand selection, create a mask, invert it and then I right click on it and do Refine Selection. My question is why do I get those strange edge artifacts when I use the "Feather" parameter and "Black Matte" as a preview method? This makes it very hard to judge the real result of the Refine Selection settings. I can properly judge the result only when I hit Apply. "White matte" and "Transparent" modes also shows the nasty splotchy edge artifacts. It seems that only "Black and white" and "Overlay" shows the edges properly. Am I doing something wrong?
