AndyB1972 Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Hello, I am practising with Affinity designer and i am attempting to create a microphone vector. I am trying to curve the edge of a rectangle so it joins the curve of a circle seamlessly, but i am struggling (see image attached). What snapping presets and tools should i be using please? Thank you AndyB Quote
Alfred Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Start by making the rectangle taller so that it sticks out at both the top and the bottom of the circle. Select both objects, click on the 'Divide' icon in the Geometry section of the toolbar, and then delete the surplus pieces of the rectangle. AndyB1972 Posted April 9, 2018 Author Posted April 9, 2018 Perfect, thank you for your quick response! Incidentally, is there any way, or any tool to make a sphere? either to make the lines in the microphone 'bulge' if you know what i mean.... Quote
A_B_C Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 There isn’t a dedicated tool. But you can create a circle, duplicate it in place, hold down Command and grab a middle handle of the duplicate’s bounding box. This will allow you to resize your circle (ellipse) symmetrically around a center axis … AndyB1972 1 Quote

Alternately, you can use layer clipping to nest the rectangle in the circle, something like in this clipped layer.afdesign file: On the plus side, there are only 2 layers & everything remains easily editable. On the minus side, if the circle has a stroke then the rectangle won't cover it. firstdefence and AndyB1972 2 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.5.7 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
