Crionis
So here's the thing... Sometimes when I try to change the color of an object, I want to see how it looks and decide if I want to keep it. What I realized is that certain seemingly meaningless actions can have irreversible consequences. Here I'll try to explain why in detail. Let's assume that I have drawn a red line somewhere in the design, like this: Next, let's assume that I have changed it to green. Once I did that, I end up with a green line, outlined with a blue selector. Since I can't see it very well because of the blue selectors around it, I will naturally want to click away to unselect it (clear selection), so that I can see clearly: Next, let's assume that I'm not sure about this green, and want to see how the initial red looked like, just to quickly compare. I will simply click "undo", and will have to do it twice in order to get to the state where the line was still red. Now, because I can't really see the line very well, I will instinctively deselect it again. So OK, I compared the two lines, and now I'm sure that I can go back to the green, because I realized that that one was definitely better.. but.... Ouch.. what happened? No redo. I can't go back to it.. And sometimes, I can't even remember what the color was! Now imagine this happening on a much greater scale. Sometimes I travel 50 or so undo states back just to see what it looked like, only to realized it wasn't good enough and then return to the original position, at the end of "history". It somewhat scares me that a single seemingly irrelevant action can destroy everything. Also, in this example, of course you can clearly see the color, and of course you can easily remember what color you had. But imagine if this was a full blown design, and you just had to unselect that blue thing in order to see the whole picture. Also, here I had the whole thing zoomed in. When viewed at 100% you can't even see the color of the line. You will more than likely want to unselect it to see what it looks like. My suggestion would be to completely remove the "clear selection state" from the history records... It doesn't serve any logical purpose anyway. Let me know what you think! Crionis
I just realized that my initial explanation was quite terrible, so I edited the initial post and hopefully managed to explain it properly this time around. My bad! I'm also not sure if this should be considered a "feature", so feel free to move it wherever is appropriate.
carl123
....Now, because I can't really see the line very well, I will instinctively deselect it again... Are you aware you can just press the Spacebar to temporally remove the selection lines around an object? Crionis
Are you aware you can just press the Spacebar to temporally remove the selection lines around an object? Now I am :) But regardless, it's still too risky to have this thing in there. One wrong click and you lose everything. BatteriesInc
Cristian Dragos
Would be awesome to have an option to Enable/Disable having the Clear Selection in the History. Just like Crionis said above, one click and you like everything! And coming from Photoshop or other software this is a common problem for me as well. lepr 1 Quote Check out my awesome Affinity Creations!
