  1. I think it would be best to have percentage increments constrained to something like 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 64, 80, 100, 125, 150, etc. The reason is that I very often end up with something in between, and when you are designing for web (and likely in general) you want to be able to end up with exact 100% reliably without thinking when you zoom with a scrollwheel. I am aware of Ctrl+1, and it's a good shortcut, but it still doesn't mean that the scrollwheel zoom should not be more precise, especially since it would certainly boost productivity. I don't think anyone really cares about 102.9% zoom, to be honest.
  2. Now I am :) But regardless, it's still too risky to have this thing in there. One wrong click and you lose everything.
  3. I just realized that my initial explanation was quite terrible, so I edited the initial post and hopefully managed to explain it properly this time around. My bad! I'm also not sure if this should be considered a "feature", so feel free to move it wherever is appropriate.
  4. So here's the thing... Sometimes when I try to change the color of an object, I want to see how it looks and decide if I want to keep it. What I realized is that certain seemingly meaningless actions can have irreversible consequences. Here I'll try to explain why in detail. Let's assume that I have drawn a red line somewhere in the design, like this: Next, let's assume that I have changed it to green. Once I did that, I end up with a green line, outlined with a blue selector. Since I can't see it very well because of the blue selectors around it, I will naturally want to click away to unselect it (clear selection), so that I can see clearly: Next, let's assume that I'm not sure about this green, and want to see how the initial red looked like, just to quickly compare. I will simply click "undo", and will have to do it twice in order to get to the state where the line was still red. Now, because I can't really see the line very well, I will instinctively deselect it again. So OK, I compared the two lines, and now I'm sure that I can go back to the green, because I realized that that one was definitely better.. but.... Ouch.. what happened? No redo. I can't go back to it.. And sometimes, I can't even remember what the color was! Now imagine this happening on a much greater scale. Sometimes I travel 50 or so undo states back just to see what it looked like, only to realized it wasn't good enough and then return to the original position, at the end of "history". It somewhat scares me that a single seemingly irrelevant action can destroy everything. Also, in this example, of course you can clearly see the color, and of course you can easily remember what color you had. But imagine if this was a full blown design, and you just had to unselect that blue thing in order to see the whole picture. Also, here I had the whole thing zoomed in. When viewed at 100% you can't even see the color of the line. You will more than likely want to unselect it to see what it looks like. My suggestion would be to completely remove the "clear selection state" from the history records... It doesn't serve any logical purpose anyway. Let me know what you think!
  5. Although it is mostly ok, the layers panel could use much improvement overall. Here are a few things I'd be happy to see: Global lock/unlock for objects. Individual solo/un-solo for objects. The current alt+click on a thumbnail just doesn't cut it, as it's not robust enough. It simply turns off when clicking away. This significantly limits the potential this feature could offer. Ability to make the list more condensed, so that more items can be visible at once. A larger thumbnail pop-up preview when hovered over the smaller thumbnail next to the object in the layers panel (this would help when making the list more condensed) Overall performance. To me, on my relatively powerful Windows machine, it feels a bit sluggish. Nothing too serious, but still feels like there's a lag whenever the layer has been moved or a when a group is being expanded. It's not exactly snappy compared to other software I've used. You guys are doing a great work so far! Can't wait to see more of the future updates! From what I've seen so far, it can only get better.
  6. True, although I'd rather prefer it to be the default behavior :)
  7. I would like to see this in AD as well!
  8. Hey guys... What about when you are trying to paste in place in another artboard?
  9. Is there any way to center align two objects, while keeping one of them constrained so that they don't meet up in the middle? Here's how I was able to get it to work in Xara: However, in Affinity Designer I can only do this: Is there any way this can be done in AD as well? It's really helpful in some occasions.
  10. Is this a mac only feature? It doesn't work like that on Windows.. or is it the exact same thing like alt+clicking on the image thumbnail as I mentioned in the previous response?
  11. I realize that right now you can alt+click on a layer thumbnail, but I don't think it's useful enough. In Xara, when you solo an object or a layer, it remains like that until you un-solo it. In Affinity Designer, solo mode gets turned off as soon as you click anywhere outside of the soloed object, or even ctrl+click inside it if it's a group. I would prefer it to be a manual on/off switch. This is one of the most useful features I can imagine when dealing with complex designs.
  12. Ok, but I really don't understand how it's so easy for you to use it like that. Not only that you have to move the mouse while holding both mouse buttons at once (that I've never seen anywhere before), but you also have to be careful to release one button before releasing another in order for it to work. Either I'm super clumsy or you must be a mouse shortcut ninja :)
  13. No, I do not have the "Select object when intersects with selection marquee" selected. I don't like to have it enabled by default, so I want to keep it off. What I do realize is that sometimes this method is very useful, so I would like to be able to trigger it manually by holding the CTRL key (or ALT). Right now I don't know how is it that CTRL works for you and not for me. Is it maybe because you have "Select object when intersects with selection marquee" enabled?
  14. Ok, I managed to pull it off somehow. The trick was to release both the left and right button at the same time, or at least release the left button first before the right one... It's not exactly easy to do, but it can be done after a few tries. I'd say this is a bug rather than a feature request.
  15. Ah sorry, what I initially thought is that there is a separate set of those buttons that works like "alt+click" by default. I think it would be great to have such set available.. or to have an option to turn this on by default for the current set.
  16. Um.. nope. They get initially selected, but as soon as I release the button(s) there is nothing selected. Also, clicking and holding both mouse buttons at once is really clumsy and poor UX (in my opinion). I really think it should be changed to windows CTRL button.. and of course, objects should remain selected once the keypress is released.
  17. Btw @MEB, is there any way to add these non destructive operations to the toolbar in Affinity Designer as well?? I can't seem to find them. If not, consider this a feature request :)
  18. Actually that one doesn't work for me... Maybe it's not implemented in windows version yet? Or am I doing something wrong? I tried holding CTRL before and after drawing the marquee.
  19. Ah that's nice! I still think double escape could be a nice addition, so maybe consider it. But double click certainly works, thanks!
  20. You guys do think about everything, don't you? :D Glad to be here, really like your work! Agreed! I wasn't aware this is how it's done here. I'll remember to do so ongoing :)
  21. Oh wow, I didn't realize that! The only thing I can see missing is copying attributes of parts of text within the textbox. For example, if there are multiple styles within the same text box, it would be great to be able to copy a style from a single word and paste that style onto another word. But that is relatively minor. The most important thing is there! :)
  22. In Figma, after applying a boolian method, the user is still able to see and interact with the shapes that were used for the boolian method. These shapes are also still editable and maneuverable, as if they were a part of a group. I find this rather useful and quite cool. Maybe you guys could do something similar?
  23. Sometimes it is useful to select objects by simply touching them with the marquee box, instead of fully surrounding them to make them selected. I would prefer to keep the surrounding method as default, but also to be able to select by touch if CTRL key is pressed while dragging. This way we would be able to easily switch between both modes as needed.
  24. By hitting escape twice, I'd like to return to the Move tool no matter which another tool I currently have activated. This can be a nice reset shortcut that gets you back to the default selection state. Right now, escape only unselects the object, and that's great. But hitting esc the second time could be used to go even further back and get you back to the Move tool. I haven't seen it done in any other application, and I understand that some people may not actually like this idea, and I don't see it as crucial or anything. More like a nice workflow addition. Having an option in settings would probably do the trick.
