IanWilson
Am I missing something about how the crop tool works? If I select the crop tool, one of the things I see at the top of the screen is a mode box where I can choose Unconstrained, Original Ratio, etc, or several preset commonly used aspect ratios such as 6" x 4". I thought that if I choose something like 6 x 4, then my dragging of the crop rectangle would be constrained to that ratio. But in fact it seems to still let you drag it to any aspect ratio you like, without preserving the aspect ratio. Am I missing something or does this not work as intended? Alfred
If you choose 6" x 4", you're choosing absolute dimensions rather than a fixed aspect ratio, and you can then change those dimensions by dragging on the adjustment handles (or by typing different values into the controls on the Context toolbar). If you want a fixed aspect ratio of 6 x 4, set the mode to Custom Ratio and type the required values into the width and height boxes. IanWilson
OK - got it, thanks. Alfred
harrym
And you can save your common ratios of course. I'd really like to be able to set the default units to always be the same as that set for the file.
Chimperil59
How do you get the default to stick to constrained original aspect. I rarely use unconstrained which appears to be the default - Mac user. Thanks
Fixx
Just press Shift.
harrym
Hi Fixx, Do you mean that when in an unconstrained mode if you press shift you can do a constrained change ? That's actually how I'd expect it to work but on Windows RC2 that's definitely not working. I'd actually be quite happy to hear that's a bug! Fixx
Hmmm, I think it did work like that but no luck this time... (?)
