Design tasks are left to Designer or the upcoming Publisher (desktop publishing). Photoshop does have it but it also deals with video, 3D, you name it... so it's not really a good example. MartinK Posted November 11, 2016 Author Share Posted November 11, 2016 Hi MEB, ok, 3D is a completely different house number but I think that a selection which can be filled with text was possible already in earliest versions of photoshop. Ok there is no problem (so I can see so far) to open a picture in Affinity Designer to do that what I want but I think why not equal implement this function in Photo to save the way with Designer? We price our applications very competitively, so we don't see an issue with recommending to our customers that they by two pieces of software if they have a broad interest in different functionalities. If so, add another to the list who would like it in Photo... I get that you can edit the document in Designer too, but that's not especially elegant... I fully agree. However I do see an issue with recommending to customers that they switch between two pieces of software to use a function that would make sense to be integrated into both (and is integrated into competing products), just for licencing reasons. That being said, I think DxO found a nice solution to this problem: They offer three pieces of software: OpticsPro (RAW developer), FilmPack (filters) and ViewPoint (perspective correction). All of those work as stand-alone applications, but when OpticsPro and any of the other two are installed on the same machine, their functionality gets seamlessly integrated into OpticsPro. This would, IMHO, also be a nice solution for AP and AD, as it would improve the experience for users and also be a new selling point. Elements isn't that much more and has these text editing effects. And if you were to add the cost of both Designer and Photo there'll be nothing in it (except you get it in one place - albeit with ). I partially understand the "Photo is for photo editing" argument, but then why have text additions at all? This isn't meant to be a dig. Constructive feedback on the way people evidently use these sort of apps. There's much to love about Affinity Photo in my testing it out to date, but the lack of this feature will likely see me sticking with PSE (despite it not being as powerful for other items, and the interface being well behind). The moderators argue on the whole that the alignment of a text to a self-constructed path is a design element and thus a case for the designer. Then it is also inconsistent that in Affinity photo forms such as star, gear wheel, cloud etc. are found. These are basically only design elements, too. @Murph7355: In Photoshop Elements it is only possible to align text to paths, but not within paths - apart from prefabricated forms.
